TC freeze if drag&drop from Desktop

Post by *matixx »

Hi,

if i drag&drop a file or folder from desktop-path inside TC to another opened program outside TC (e.g. in the taskbar from windows) then TC is freezing.
Only one solution ist is minimize TC and maximize TC.

Win7pro 64bit
TC8.51 64bit

Same workflow in TC8.01 64Bit works fine.

I can confirm that drag from \\Desktop in TC 8.51a x64 to outer application causes TC to temporarily hang (until I switch focus to another application and back to TC), same operation doesn't cause hang in TC 8.51a x86.

Anyway, drag-and-drop from virtual folders to outer applications is not supported so it is not a big problem.

I don't understand the problem. Can you give me step by step instructions, please?
1. I click on the small triangle to the left of the current path and click on "Desktop"
2. I drag a file from Desktop (what file type?) to other program, e.g. Explorer window.
3. I drop the file.
???
The file is copied. TC x64 is still working.

Yes

Yes. i tried with every filetype i´ve placed on desktop (*.pdf, *.doc, *.bat, *.lnk *.txt). I dont think its a question of filetype.
ghisler(Author) wrote:3. I drop the file.
For me and other: NO. By passing the TC Window<>WindowsTaskBar the file on the mousecursor doesnt exist anymore and TC hang. It´s not possible to drag&drop to another program.

It seems that other virtual folders in TC have the same problem, e.g. \\Fonts\. Same Problem like desktop.

Local folder, e.g. c:\Users\user\Desktop\ works fine.
Please notice that TC8.01 don´t have this problem.

Ah, I didn't go via taskbar, I used Alt+Tab during the drag.

Indeed the drop is lost when it hits the taskbar. But TC isn't freezing. What do I need to do to make it freeze?

Ok, "freeze" seems the wrong word.
TC is not visible at the moment the drop is lost. If i klick with the mouse on any gui-element of TC -->no reaction, everything ist not visible. The only one element which is normal is the panelseparator, if i make an mouseover over the panelseparator then the mousecursor changed to the standard separator-symbol. But rightclick to change separate% is not able.
If i get the focus on another program and then switch back to TC then its ok, or minimze maximize TC.

Strange, doesn't happen here - TC x64 always remains responsive. :(

This is strange, because all user who answered here and in the other thread can reproduce this problem and in TC8.01 all is fine.

If you want you can give me more information what i can do to help you.

Maybe I'm still doing something differently - can you give me step by step instructions what I need to do? Maybe I just tried to drag wrong file type, or wrong order, etc.

Hi

I have almost same problem. Let me give you step by step instructions.

1. I choosed file in TC
2. Drag and then drops it to external program's window (CorelDraw).
3. External program starts opening this file.

TC freezes for a long time (1 minute) until external program opened this file (file is large > 2Gb).

I found workaround - after drag&drop i killed TC in TaskManager, and then - start it again, and i can work in TC now as usual, when external program still loads this large file.

Kill/Start Totall Commander is not big deal, but is there option to bypass freezing after drag&drop? thanks..

my windows is XP
TC version 8.5.

i am not sure that is the same problem. For me it fails by every file. Not only with large files.
Then for me its not able to open the file in other programs.
If i passing the taskbar with the mouse then the file is lost and TC loses the focus.

TC is locked until the target program returns from accepting the file. This is normal and has nothing to do with the above problem.

Hi,
I update TC from 8.5 (on this version work good) to 9.0. My problem look the same like this.
1. I check files in TC
2. I try to move this files to other program (two files *.mkv to MPC HC - from taskbar in Windows 10.)
3. when mouse is on taskabar, then the file is lost and TC loses the focus
The same problem is when i try move one file from TC to desktop (or another folder with no taskabar).

Windows 10 x64
TC 9.0 x32

edit:
After restat system, this problem will be solved! :)
