[TC9b4] Network Neighborhood: Refresh.lnk file

Post by *Dalai »

Not sure it's a bug, but it definitely is an inconsistency. It applies to XP, maybe earlier Windows versions.
  1. Set NetHoodStyle=1 (or 0) in wincmd.ini
  2. Start TC9 beta4
  3. Open Network Neighborhood
  4. There will be a file called <Refresh>.<lnk>. This might be OK, but was never the case in previous TC versions.
  5. Set the focus to the Windows taskbar or any other program
  6. Return to TC: The file will disappear
  7. Press Ctrl+R and the file will reappear
You can do this as often as you like. Ctrl+R will always make the file reappear and switching from any other application back to TC will make the file disappear.

Expected: Either show the file always or never. In previous TC versions the file was not shown on XP and earlier, so I suggest to return to this behavior. IMO this pseudo-file is not necessary anyway.

Other ways to reproduce the same problem (tested under Windows 98, 2000 and XP):

1) Press Alt+F1/F2 and go into "Network Neighborhood"
2) There is no <Refresh>.<lnk> item
3) Press Ctrl+R
4) The <Refresh>.<lnk> item appears

5) Now go into "Entire Network" and back
6) The <Refresh>.<lnk> item disappears
7) Press Ctrl+R
8) The <Refresh>.<lnk> item appears

9) Now minimize and maximize TC
10) The <Refresh>.<lnk> item disappears
11) Press Ctrl+R
12) The <Refresh>.<lnk> item appears

TC 9.0 final and TC 9.0a RC2:

I have <Refresh>.<lnk> in my network neighborhood under Windows 7; it doesn't disappear in any case.

Is this intentional or a regression?

Yes, it's intentional, it forces a reload.
