I was going to post this first in this thread, but that was from last year. So here ya go.

Total Commander Power User Color Theme

Designed for Total Commander 6.03a and tested to work
also with 5.50. In addition should work with any previous
TC version with "define colors by file type" feature.

Includes coloring for basic, media, audio, music, design,
internet, scene, programming, emulation and misc files and
special cases. Contains extra focus on audio and music production.

Total Commander has a very powerful and an an usable way of
coloring files and directories based on their type or any
search attributes. However TC does not include any color
themes by default. Most of the users likely pass the feature,
it being too tedious to adjust covering all of the common files.

So I thought to distribute mine. I have composed this color
theme over a long period adding new cases when the need has
arisen. Different colors based on names and extensions makes
screening of long list of files a breeze. This theme extends
to most of the common file types with tweaks for various
groups, file sizes and naming conventions I have found usable.

Emphasis has been on intuitivity, aesthetics and usability.
Whether you are a regular user or a power user you can share
the benefits. You can easily change colors to fit your taste.
Or add and remove file types to meet your needs.

HOW TO INSTALL

Download TC Color Presets and add sections below into presets with that.

Manual install.

Locate and open wincmd.ini with text-editor. By default
wincmd.ini is located at Windows root directory.

Replace both Colors and Searches sections in wincmd.ini
with settings listed below. You must include both sections
as they rely on each other.

Find [Colors] section. If you have previous color settings and
you wish to retain them all or partly, you have to manually
check any overlapping definitions. Bear in mind that this
theme is designed for black or dark background. It is thus
highly recommended to replace the whole Colors section.

Find [searches] section. If you have previous searches defined
and wish to retain them, it is moderately safe to append these
settings. However, you might want to check that no same named
search labels are included. In that case it is easiest to rename
those of your own search labels with unique names. Otherwise
just replace whole searches section with the one below.

Very interesting color theme. Though it doesn't match my purposes one can see how mighty this file-coloring can be.

Once more I miss the feature (i requested some times before) to color not only the fore- but also the background (of a filetype). This way you could use as default background color white (or another ligth color) wich is more convenient for reading but still colour a huge amount of filetypes with the names still readable.

Yes, that is a bit annoying the way TC treats directories the same as files. I have tried to minimize the overlaps with that preset while doing some extra color setting for various directories. You can use Advanced Search with filesize set to 0 bytes to distinguish between directories and most files.

ah, or do it by unchecking directories, it seems.


I also try to have a bunch of screenshots about various plugins and how they make TC a wonder to use. Perhaps for some existing tutorial as an addition. I have been using TC since 3.50 or something and haven't touched explorer ever since.

That along with other cd image formats are handled in ColorFilter29 with searches.

To add a subtle variety and to distinguish between groups of image files. I've done this with some other file types too. Files in 19 are usually the one's you are editing and big uncompressed graphic files. In 20, those are mostly smaller and compressed. I know that there might be a bit too much variety in colors, but it's not too much work to edit them to have less colors. Also there comes a problem with too much file types listed as TC limits the wordcount on file type list. That's why some file types like archives are on several separater color filters (with same colors though).

Yap, because they are two separately edited and saved presets. Pasted one omits only few cases, which were censored by this board software. (nothing too serious though)

Another way to sort graphics files is to distinguish between loss-less and loss-full formats (e.g. png vs. jpg).

And perhaps vector based formats should have it's own colors.

Your filter is too "undergroundish" unfortunately. I prefer working on light backgrounds but that's a matter of taste and coolness of course.

Well I used to use one with light background, but got bored looking it. Heh. That didn't include much color filters though. I might later do a light background version based on these file type settings.
