Synchronize tool: after syncing one file, list become empty

Post by *LogicDaemon »

Setup is following:

Left pane is directory, Right pane is 7-Zip archive (working via Total 7-Zip plugin)

Right pane has fewer directories than left pane, and all of directories from right pane present at left pane also.

Select all directories on right pane and start synchronizing.
Press compare, then deselect all files (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+M), then select one file to synchronize left to right. Press Synchronize and confirm.

after synchronizing,

What should happen: list shows differences (or all files) again.
What actually happens: list has no items in it, like if there are no files.

Workaround:
Closing and re-opening Synchronize window allows to synchronize again.

It looks like the following is happening:
1. You have checked "only selected (in main window)"
2. Synchronizing removes the selection
3. When you recompare, nothing is selected, so nothing will be shown.

Solution: Uncheck "only selected (in main window)".

I can uncheck, but "only selected" is intended.
See, left folder may contain a lot more directories/files when archive should contain. And I only want to sync ones already in the archive.

Btw, in 8.52a this works fine.

Also, this problem only appears when syncing with archive.
If I sync two directories in OS filesystem, everything is fine (after syncing, list shows differences for selected folders again).

This is still not working in TC9.00RC6 as reported above for a prior release candidate. I tested this in TC 8.52a 64 bit and TC 9.00RC6 64 bit running Windows 10 64 bit Enterprise. I used the same sequence of four saved Synchronize Directories setups on each version. In TC 8.52a, the test ran as expected; each saved setup found files or reported the directores matched. In TC 9.00 RC6, on the fourth setup, "files found: 0" was returned. I exited out of Synchronize Directories, reentered it, reran the same setup and and files were then found.

???
RC5 and RC6 now remember the selection when you make the first comparison, so it will still be there on the second comparison even when the selection is gone. I have followed your steps in the first message of this thread in both TC 32-bit and 64-bit, and the sync function works exactly as it should - it does show the remaining differences here. I really don't know what else could be wrong on your system, sorry.

Unfortunately I still can't reproduce the error with RC6. Is anyone else able to reproduce it by following the video in the first post?

Anyway, I will not delay the release of TC9 because of this error, I will try to fix it in TC 9.01 if I can find a way to reproduce it.

Could you create a video with TC9 RC6 where the error occurs, please?

No, this isn't the same problem. In the linked problem, the user is trying to load a selection with saved settings. I cannot find any hint on that in this thread.

My mistake. My own problem is with trying to load a selection with saved settings. A work around is to close and re-open the synchronize window. As this was the solution in this thread, I conflated the problem was the work around.

The problem you reported was indeed related, but not the problem the thread starter reported...
