About shortcut-making

Hi there,
can you shed some light about implementation of making shortcuts on home screen? Is it done somewhat like on desktop, some shortcut-file or how?

I need to make a big bunch of shortcuts to files (100+) and it's quite cumbersome to do this manually for each. Is there some way to automate this process? Maybe shortcut file has specific format that could serve as a template?
