Delay while selecting a file

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Delay while selecting a file

Post by *jho5 »

Hi,
I was using 8.52a and the file selection in the view was always fast. Now in 9.0a when I select a file the selection is sometimes delayed. It does not matter if it is on a local drive or a network drive.

Nothing was changed in this regard. What can cause a delay:
1. When you select folders with spacebar, TC counts the files inside
2. When there are a LOT of files in a folder, calculating the total at the bottom can take a while.

But this should take the same time in TC 8.5 and 9...

Hi,

I had the same problem when updating to TC 9.
I noticed that it doesn't happen when selecting a file by clicking directly on its name. But as soon as you select a file by clicking on the empty space next to its name there is a very short delay which makes the program feel a bit unresponsive.

Fortunately I found a way to fix this:
Go to Settings->Operation and disable Rubber band selection ("Gummiband-Markierung" in German).

I guess the delay is caused by the program waiting for the user to either let go of the mouse button press or to start dragging (which starts the rubber band selection).
