Accessing SMB Share very slow

Post by *spaceman_spiff »

Hi,

I have an SMB share on my synology NAS.
When accessing it with total commander I get a ~15-30 Sec delay before the directory contents appear. This happens every time when I try to open a folder.

When I open it with the windows explorer everything is instantaneous.
When I try to open the folder with TC it then blocks the windows explorer until the directory contents are shown. After that, it again is very fast.

I am already accessing the smb share directly over IP and not over hostname (to exclude hostname resolving issues).

Maybe you have a hint for me where to look for a problem? I already activated SMB2 only but this is was no help.
Thank you for your reply.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Sounds more like a timeout on a multi-homed network - e.g. when you PC has multiple real or virtual (VMware?) network cards.

My PC is a real PC and has only 1 Network Card.

What I found interesting is that while browsing is exceptionally fast with windows explorer deleting files takes the same amount of time.
Any idea where I could look?

Hi,
after multiple restarts of my NAS the problem seems to have disappeared. This can be closed. Thank you for your replies.

Faced to the same problem. Very low speed in TC and good access speed in standard windows explorer. TC 9.22a, Windows 8.1x64. SMB server works with SMB2 protocol.

Do you use custom columns in the file lists? For some of them, Total commander needs to access each file separately, which can be very slow over a network.

Yes, I do. But I tried to switch to "Brief view" and the result is practically the same.

1. Which fields do you use in custom columns view
2. Did you close and re-open Total Commander after switching to Brief view?
