Re: Ultra TC Editors 6.42 Final

Post by *MarekCzerski »

Is this application developed since the latest message on the forum which is more than 15 years old? I ask the question because I have some problems with using the Shortcut Editor in Wind 2010 64-boit TC 1000, and I do not know whether there is any sense to present my issues...
Best regards
Marek

Ultra TC Editors are not maintained anymore as the developer passed away in November 2019.

A suggestion has been made to add the feature set of Ultra TC Editors into Total Commander 11.00.

btw,I encountered the following error during the use of UTCE: This error occurs after I use Ultra TC Editors.exe to start the submodule, when I close Ultra TC Editors.exe, sometime some submodule cannot be closed, and this error dialog pops up, only in a separate submodule The Ultra TC Editors.exe can only be closed after the module. This error is random and I can't achieve it every time.

Due to a hardware failure, I purchased a Windows 11 capable computer and Windows 11 Pro was installed on this PC.
Windows 11 Pro (x64) Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.778)

Code: Select all

OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12600K 12th Gen, 3.70 GHz, 10 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 21H2
Installed on 20/‎06/‎2022
OS build 22000.778
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.778.0
.
Source msinfo32.exe (System Information), Windows logo key + Pause key (System > About)
I have successfully registered the file "mscomctl.ocx" as stated here (hardcopy available).

Code: Select all

Regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mscomctl.ocx
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mscomctl.ocx

Name Size Date Path
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mscomctl.ocx 6.1.98.46 1 070 232	05.11.2015 16:30 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ ... extract from file: VB60SP6-KB3096896-x86-ENU.msi ...
- product version: 6.01.9846
VB60SP6-KB3096896-x86-ENU.msi	10 335 744	25.06.2022 15:16 C:\totalcmd\Tools\Ultra-TC-Editors\Ultra-TC-Editors\MSCOMCTL.OCX\VB60SP6-KB3096896-x86-ENU.msi
After that I managed once to call the file "Button Bar Editor.exe" via button in TC successfully.
After some time and other activities I tried to start the file "Hotkeys Editor.exe" via button.

Unfortunately, after this attempt and all further attempts (among other things PC cold start) I received only this message:
error message wrote: "Ultra TC Button Bar Editor

Run-time error '339':
Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not
correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"
The "Button Bar Editor.exe" should help me to set my buttons to a TC path that is new to me.
Since this is currently not possible for me, I have started to change the buttons in TC.

However, I would like to UNDO the (successful) registration of file "mscomctl.ocx".
Please advice.

I use without problems the version 6.01.9786 of MSCOMCTL.OCX
under Windows 11.
All modules of the Ultra TC Editors are working and can be called from the main program.

To deregister DLL or OCX files use the command regsvr32 with the /u switch.

Regsvr32 /u means unregister. So the commands given by user nsp first unregister the file and then register the file.
You list them in reverse order. Did you execute them in that order?

That should be clear now.

Now it becomes clear to me - I did not understand the instruction in the linked topic:
I had made a registration and afterwards a deregistration(!)
(This is what happens when a layman (and a bit of a hobby user) deals with such topics).

Now everything works again!

Thanks for your prompt support. :D

Thanks for your info - everything is clear to me now.

Unfortunately yes.

For those of us who might be 'a layman (and a bit of a hobby user)', there seem to be two things going on here:

1. Ultra TC Editors (that let us configure some TC settings in a very nice graphical way) has had its English expressions updated by member Petermad.
The detail of the changes is not immediately apparent but they're sure to be valuable.
1a. You can take the English.cedf file out of the zip file and, with admin rights, replace the old one in c:\Program Files (x86)\Ultra TC Editors\Data Files\
1b. Whether you should replace the 'tc default hotkeys.hky' file or not is unknown. (Mine is bigger than the new one.)

2. Tusk has begun incorporating UTCE's functions into TC itself (I think). Quite how we users might follow his lead is a little obscure at this time.
