Multi-rename tool, How to include parent directory name

Post by *JimmyTheBroker »

Hi guys,

In the multi-rename tool I have:

[C]-XXX-[YMD] [h]h [m]m

Where the "XXX" I want to have the parent Directory's Name.
Eg a file within
D:\03 - D Drive 20171224\Finance\Damages
would be called:
001-Damages-20171226 15h 04m

thanks!
Jimmy

Replace XXX with [P], if you press F1 for help you get a description of all available placeholders. You can also press the small ± button next to the the NAME button for a quick list.

Ok, another question then.

[C]-XXX-[P]-[YMD] [h]h [m]m

Where "XXX" is the parent directory of the nth level?

eg
Directory
D:\03 - D Drive 20171224\Finance\Damages
say of the 3nd level
so the file name becomes:

"001-Finance-Damages-20171226 15h 04m"

Any ideas?

Also I didn't get an email notification when you answered this!

In this particular case XXX=[G] - grandparent directory, but there are no more such placeholders.
You can use [1-] ([#-#]) for full path+name and search and replace function.

I know [G] is for grandparent, but is there a way to choose a particular depth level?

Eg:
Even if one file has many many sub-folders, it will still refer to the same directory as a file with just one sub-folder?

Thanks,
Jimmy

Parent means parent, i.e. mother/father, not grandfather/grandmother or great-grandfather/grandmother. So [P] is the directory the files are in. [G] is the grandfather directory, i.e. one level above [P]. And, as hi5 already said: take a look at the TC help for a list of possible placeholders.
