Post by *JimmyTheBroker »

Thanks!

1. Search for subdirectories (ALT+F7)
2. Feed to listbox
3. Select all
4. Multi-Rename tool (CTRL+M)
5. In "Rename mask: file name" combobox type [1-]
6. In "Search & Replace" comboboxes type:
search for: (space)
replace with: whatever you wish (or nothing)
7. Press "Start!"

I seem to be getting an error message:

"Error, could not rename the files shown in bold!"

I thought maybe the new files have the same names, so I added a counter.. same error.
I have also tried doing what you have said opening TC as the administrator.

any ideas?

thanks,
Jimmy

You have to rename the directories bottom-up (deepest dir first). Otherwise TC can't find the subdirectories anymore because you removed the branch they were sitting on...

That makes sense, but what's the best way to do that? Too many files to go through each directory and preform this.

There's no need to go deeper, you'lll get the same results starting from the high level. Just ignore error - press "Cancel" and start procedure once again from the same level - during second time you can rename directories not allowed to be renamed on the first time.

Search for the directories you want to rename, sort them by directory level (descending), mark them and call the MRT. It should present a list that starts with the longest/deepest directory name. To actually sort by directory level, you might want to use a plugin like FileX with its field DepthLevel.

That's quite cumbersome to do when you have a lot of directories.

I did something similar a very long time ago.
I forgot how but now I remembered.
There is no need to use any plugin.
Just enable directories sorting in configuration, search for directories, feed to listbox and apply reversed name sortorder.
Deeper subdirectories are now sorted first.
Select all, use MRT.

I feel like that would only work most/some of the time. Some parent directories may have really long names, while directories may have very short file names, which would stuff up the order.
