Join tabs and favorites

What do you think about joining left and right tabs ?
When hovering with mouse on the left part of the tab would be that part of the tab highlighted and clicking on it would change the left pane to the corresponding folder. And similarly the right part.
And even more - inspired by modern web browsers -
favorites=bookmarks ( [*] button ) could have its own bar similar to the tab bar or could be at the same level as tabs as they have the same function as tabs.
