I don't know if that helps, but take a look at the "Preferences > Configuration > Icons > ....." settings

From the APK-wdx readme:
Just open TC's wlx plug-in 'add' dialog. Type '*' or '*.*' and press return
to remove the file extension filter. Now navigate to the wdx plug-in dir and open
'APK.wdx' or 'APK.wdx64' (depending on TC version).
It won't matter to TC if the file is already registered as wdx, it will still
work properly for the Lister interface.
But if ApkShellExt2 is an Explorer extension, TC is probably(?) able to get Thumbnails from it.
Make sure that
Configuration -> Thumbnails -> Use Explorer method (OLE2)
is enabled.
TC plugins: PCREsearch and RegXtract
