Shift+F7 acts like F7

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Shift+F7 acts like F7

Post by *Jivan_Mukta »

A new key is added in KEYBOARD.TXT / TASTEN.TXT:
SHIFT+F7 Create directory in other panel, using name under cursor

UMSCH+F7 Verzeichnis im anderen Dateifenster erstellen, mit Namen unter Cursor

But the key doesn't work properly.

Also the key is not documented in totalcmd.chm , section: "Keyboard layout" / "Tastaturbelegung"

Best regards and thanks for the new TC 9.20

I can confirm that Shift+F7 has been added to keyboard.txt/tasten.txt since TC 9.20b1 and that it doesn't work It works as F7.

I can also confirm that it is not mentioned in the Help file (neither English nor German Help file).

Its documented in the Keyboard.txt, but it doesn't work.
It tries to create a dir with the name in the same side
which fails of course if the current element is a dir.

Oh, it's a function I removed later because it requires translation. But now since there will be a translation, I can re-add it.

You can already try it by defining a hotkey or button for numeric command 911. The command will be cm_MkDirOther .

Don't forget to add: 911=29 to WCMICONS.INC for this new command.

Seems to work as described, except that it also focuses the newly created dir in the target panel. No idea if that's good or bad.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

If you copy a file with Shift+F5 or make a new dir with F7 the new element is also focused, so I think it is OK to focus the new dir also in the opposite panel

When I use SHIFT+F7, the proposed name is not the one under the cursor. Even when I move the cursor the same (random?) name is proposed like [Windows] or [System Volume Information]. I was not able to find a pattern in this behaviour to pinpoint the problem. I use the Beta 4 release.

TC uses the proposed name under the cursor from the source panel. Then it switches to the target panel and shows the dialob box to create the directory. It does NOT use the name under the cursor from the target panel.

Thanks, I did not understand that the new directory was made in the other panel. I am a bit hesitant for this kind of commands when they happen in a not active panel.

Strange point.
This and many other functions in every 2 windows file manager
affect the non active window.
Or how should a copy work in your way ?

Hello Christian,

Is there any way to keep the usual functionality as well, please?
I was using Shift + F7 as regular directory create key, I wouldn't want to create directory in the opposite side of the panel. Maybe there is an INI flag for that, or is it possible to configure it like that?

Thanks,

You can just map cm_MkDir to F7 and/or Shift+F7, overriding the new behavior/functionality.
