"Find text" - Searching a word in files and showin

Post by *cubic »

I want to search (Alt+F7) 'Trump is bad' in all files in a folder and I want to see the line when the expression was found directly INTO the listed/returned files. Is it possible with total commander? There is any plugin for this?

Open the file(s) in the lister. Under F3 the search item is stored. So when you press F3 you find all the occurrences of "Trump is bad".

You can't see lines directly in search results with TC, you only can see list of files, but if you do F3 on any file from results and press F3 again, TC will show you last search query which is "Trump is bad" in your case, so you can go through the list and view found text.

Directly results in TC is hardly to realize. Every file type has his own definition of what a line is or has no definition. So the best way is to show the file in the lister with the searched item in the middle.

Look at this tool (which seems to be a copy/clone of TC Search Tool).
They DO show the line were the phrase was found directly into the program.
Maybe we should submit this as a 'feature request'? I was hoping that there is a TC plugin that can do this - though I am afraid of plugins. Some of them are viruses.

@vdijken - related to enters
Not really. You encounter CR or LF, you pretend it is a "enter" and you display it. Don't need 'laser precision'. Just to see where my searched phrase resides into the file.....

"Show file content in FindFiles".

Where to submit a feature request for this?
I would really like to have it!
