it would be nice if checksum calculation and diskdir-plugin could append to an existing file.

Yes, that would be nice - it's not done because files could then appear twice in the list. Updating the existing list isn't as simple as appending - the entire list would have to be loaded, and checked for each file individually whether it is already in the list or not. That's how the zip packer does it. But with checksums it's not so easy - they could contain various types of checksums for the same file (not created by TC, but other checksum creators do this).

OK, it's difficult.
What I need is a simple append only.
