TC scrolling while changing view modes when files selected

Post by *Hacker » 2018-10-21, 13:23 UTC

Hi Christian and all,
TC 9.21a x64 on Windows 10 x64.

I am in a dir with 3220 files. I select them all by pressing Num*. When I change from Brief to Full view or back from Full to Brief view, the whole file list gets scrolled from start to end. See video. I do not do any scrolling by myself, neither using mouse wheel, nor cursor arrows, nor Page Up/Down, nor Home/End. I only press these keys in the following order: Home, Num*, Ctrl-F2, wait, Ctrl-F1, wait, Num*. The same thing happens with Thumbnail view where it is especially slow and annoying. This does not happen when no files are selected.
Any ideas?

TIA
Roman

I can confirm this. It only affects the 64bit version and it goes all the way back to TC 8.0 beta9 - before beta9 only the slider in the scrollbar moves, not the content of the file panel - and only when going from Brief to full mode not from Full to Brief.

Maybe this should be moved to the Bug reports section ?

petermad,
I'd rather wait for Christian. Perhaps this is some stupid unavoidable behavior.

Well, it is not as annoying in TC 8.0 beta1- beta8 as it is in later TC-versions - so maybe it could at least be turned back to pre-beta9 behaviour.

Strange that 32-bit and 64-bit behave differently, the code is the same. I will have to disable redrawing of the list while the selection is being restored.

Christian,
Confirmed fixed, thank you, but in a branch view with 50 000 files it takes more than 10 seconds to switch from Brief to Full (or from Full to Brief), no files selected, no scrolling, the panel gets gray and stays so for more than 10 seconds until it is redrawn. Is this normal? Or should I create a new bug thread for this behavior?

Thank you
Roman

It is unfortunately normal. TC has to recreate the list control and window, re-add all items, and then restore the selection for each of them. The only shortcut would be to check first whether there are any selected at all, but this would only help when nothing is selected.

Christian,
Well, it would be nice if you could improve it at least for situations when nothing is selected but if it saves maybe only 1 second out of 10 seconds then it's not really worth it.
