Media playback of mp3/mp4 fails in Win10 x64 (1809)

This is in reference to the discussion about this issue here:
https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=51161

There appears to be a bug in TC using mciqtz32.dll in Windows10 x64 build 1809 (October update), causing playback of media files in Lister to fail.Lister then falls back to showing just the text content of the file.

Confirmed by another user with same OS version.

This is on 32-bit TC. In 64-bit it appears to work, but I have not tested a lot of different formats. Mostly mp3 audio and mp4 video won't play in 32-bit TC.

Wav files play since they appear to use another dll - mciwave.dll.

I have tested with older pre-update 1809 versions of mciqtz32 and the same error occurs, so I don't think the DLL itself causes the error but something else in the system relating to media playback using this DLL.

I have tested with a clean ini file. Multimedia is enabled in Lister.
Irfanview is installed and works for viewing images, not sure if Irfanview is also somehow used for other media?
Mp3 files play on my system using all other applications to play audio, including Mediamonkey, VLC, WMP and Zoom Player.

Not confirmed.
I now made tests with a fresh ini-file and it works for me in x86 and x64 TC
under the Windows version shown in my signature.

Well, that's a bummer, for me at least... Maybe it's not related to the Winversion then...

I might try again with fresh ini. EDIT: Tried again with a new ini file, no change in behaviour.

It looks like Microsoft is leaving out more and more functionality for 32-bit programs on 64-bit Windows. For example, regedit.exe no longer can be called from 32-bit programs because the copy in the 32-bit system32 directory has been removed. I don't think that there is a solution for this problem. Try using a plugin to play media files.

I can start regedit.exe from the command line of 32bit TC without problems.
See my signature for the environment.

Btw, I have experimented with the newer methods "DirectShow Video" and the even newer (since Vista) Windows Media Foundation. My test programs could pless LESS files than with what I'm using now! "DirectShow Video" didn't play mp4 files, while Windows Media Foundation didn't play AVI files with certain codecs.
