Actions have been done:
1. Pack some files into ZIP, e.g. 1.jpeg and 2.jpeg
2. Update ZIP - add 3.jpeg
3. Rename 3.jpeg to 1.jpeg
4. Get an error mesage and nothing done.

Expected:
4. Replace original 1.jpeg with newer 3.jpeg and get new ZIP 1.jpeg (new) and 2.jpeg inside, older 1.jpeg has been deleted.

Also.
This can be easely done in real folders (not inside ZIP). Rename functions replaces older file.

Just one of the cases IRL
I have lot's of .docx and .xlsx files with old image1.jpeg inside. For some reasons I have to replace them with newer files. Now I can't do my habitual movements.

Please, make this work inside ZIP too.

I have no problem with your steps 1 - 3 inside of a Zip file
and also no problem doing that inside of a docx file.

Do you rename 3.jpeg INSIDE the ZIP file into existing file name?

No, but why is this the problem ?
You can delete the other file before renaming.

There's too much manual job and chances to make mistakes
