TC deletes to recycle bin via OLE2. It can crash due to some shell extensions or a damaged OLE2 subsystem.

Do you also get a crash when you just open the right click context menu (Shift+F10)?

No, it won't crash if I just open the content menu. In fact, my current workaround is to click the right button of mouse and delete the files by clicking the delete from the content menu. It won't crash by doing that.

If I only press DELETE, TC drops.
If I select DELETE from the context menu, it is OK.
If I press SHIFT-DELETE, it's OK

Search for "faulty shell extension".

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Search for "faulty shell extension".
If it is a faulty Shell extension I wouldn't think "If I select DELETE from the context menu" would be OK.

petermad,
Yes, it would seem like that, wouldn't it.

There are several different kinds of shell extensions. There might be even ones that hook themselves into file operations (copy/move/delete), but I'm not sure. What I'm trying to say is that looking for faulty shell extensions is a good idea nonetheless.

It's highly possible that it's an extension of some antivirus, internet security or other protection/backup software.

I have exactly the same problem with TC v9.51 64bit.

But: When I delete with TC v8.51a 32bit the TC does not crash, i.e. the deleted file goes into the recycle bin.

Tks a lot for your kind support !

(Mobile: Galaxy S7 with Android 8.0.0, TC 3.0)

... but still the same problem, of course :(

By the way I did also the "faulty shell extension" check proposed in another thread:

To correct it, please try the following:
1. Get the free tool ShellExView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
2. Start it. If using Total Commander 32-bit, you need to get the 32-bit version, otherwise the 64-bit version of ShellExView.
3. Sort the shell extensions by type
4. Disable all context menu shell extensions one by one (you can hide/keep those belonging to Windows, they are usually OK).
5. Continue until Total Commander stops crashing
6. Now you can re-enable the extensions which don't cause any problems

I disabled ALL context menu shell extensions (even those belonging to Windows) but TC 9.51 64bit still crashes :(

I need some kind of stack trace. Could you use the tool Procdump to create
one for me, please:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900.aspx

1. Create new directory c:\dumps
2. Create a lnk file of procdump.exe or procdump64.exe (for 64-bit Windows)
with Ctrl+Shift+F5, e.g. procdump.lnk
3. Open the properties the lnk file with Alt+Enter
4. Change the command from c:\path\procdump.exe to
c:\path\procdump.exe -ma -i c:\dumps
5. Important: Click on "Advanced" and check option "As administrator"
6. Run procdump with this link file
7. Wait until the crash occurs.
8. Send me the dump from c:\dumps.

Hi,
I have similar issue with TC9.51 (64bit) on Win 10 Enterprise 1809.

On Del on file it shows Deleting dialog and crashes:

Faulting application name: TOTALCMD64.EXE, version: 9.5.1.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0xffffffffffffdeb8
Faulting process id: 0x663c
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6ab89f4a65d5e
Faulting application path: C:\totalcmd\TOTALCMD64.EXE
Faulting module path: unknown
Report Id: 975e8ba7-2412-48db-892b-bab9ce0e1b04
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

Deleting using context menu from within TC works. Shift + Del works.

I have created the dump file but it has 307MB, so should I upload it somewhere? Or make it downloadable?
