[Bug] Crash when copying to flash drive

Post by *Helix751 »

I got a crash while trying to copy to a removable flash drive from HD.

After starting the copy operation, TC shows the message dialog "Disk Full", although there are 52,1 Mb free on the drive, and after continuing, the following message window appears:

Using Win 2K SP4, TC v6.51, standard flash drive (massive storage device)

The "Disk full" error is also shown when WriteFile returns any other error. You may try to use compatibility mode for this drive in configuration - misc, perhaps it works better with that specific drive.

I have digged a little more and found that the error is caused (apparently) by the use of the recommended values (inside the wincmd.ini section of TC's Help file) for the CopyBlockSize[Other], CopyHugeBlockSize[Other] keys.

At least, the problem was solved by returning to the default values (actually deleting these keys from wincmd.ini)

Any clue about why this may happen?

Sergio

to not open a new topic, i have a problem when copiing a large file to usb2 flash key,
http://www.canyon-tech.com/products/show.cfm/Peripherals/Storage/Flash_Memory_Storage/CN-USB20BFD1024R_(Rubber_1GB)
the speed is nice for a minute or so, then it sudenly drops to about 50kb/s, probably actaully isnt doing anything, any idea?

p.s. the copiing will work fine when simply drag/droping using windows explorer.

Try to turn on the compatibility mode for USB Flash drives or (in older TC versions) for the particular drive letter.
The option is: Configuration -> Copy/Delete -> Use compatibility mode for the following drives.

Also some virus scanners can cause this - some flash drives don't like simultaneous writing+reading (writing by TC, reading by scanner) and become very slow.
