There are no such focus problems here.
Using the SumatraPDF plugin 1.5.1
Together with portable SumatraPDF version 3.6.15785 x64
It also works with the new official version 3.5 x64.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1373a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
QAP 11.6.3.3 x64

sqa_wizard wrote: 2023-10-24, 19:32 UTC tuska: It is NOT about the quickview of SumatraPDF.wlx itself. This works fine.
The problem is with the sequential browsing through a list of PDF files using cursor up/down keys.
SumatraPDF seems to catch the focus from the file list panel to the quickview panel after each change (starting with SumatraPDF V1.5)

Looks like the problem is with SumatraPDF itself, not with any plugin.
Above I have described the following situation.

In the left TC window these files are displayed:

CHIP_2023-07.pdf
CHIP_2023-08.pdf
CHIP_2023-09.pdf    <-- Cursor on this file
CHIP_2023-10.pdf
CHIP_2023-11.pdf

With Ctrl+Q and cursor-up or cursor-down I can switch to another pdf file without any problems with TCSumatraPDF Plugin 1.51.
Tab, N and P keys also work.

If I have misunderstood, please give me a step-by-step description.

Good morning guys, thank you all for your participation.
sqa_wizard got it right what I was trying to report. Here's a step by step description, I hope that makes it more clear:

Using SumatraPDF v3.5.1 with the SLister plugin:

TC left file panel, the file cursor is on a PDF file, press Ctrl+Q for quick-view, the right file panel shows the PDF file, the file cursor (focus) switches to the right panel which currently displays PDF file, thus you cannot directly continue quick-viewing the next/previous file in the left file panel with the cursor-up/down keys anymore, you first have to manually switch back the focus to the left file panel.

Remarks:
I tried AkulaBig's SumatraPDF plugin with SumatraPDF v3.5.1, which is able to keep the focus on the left file panel when viewing the first PDF file in quick-view mode. If you then advance to another PDF file with cursor-up/down in quick-view mode, the focus switches to the right file panel.

When using a previous release of SumatraPDF, like v3.4.6 or earlier, either with the SLister or SumatraPDF plugin, there are no such focus issues, the file cursor (focus) always remains in the left file panel which allows for quick browsing through PDF files in quick-view mode.

As said above, none of the wrong behavior for me using SumatraPDF plugin 1.5.1.
Exactly following your steps.

Interresting. I'm on Win10 64-bit, tried SumatraPDF v1.51. 64-bit along with SumatraPDF 3.5.1 64-bit. I pointed the plugin to the SumatraPDF binary via the plugin's config ini, using its path flag. Perhaps you are using a different setup?

Thanks for your effort in making a video, much appreciated. I will investigate further. Again, curiousely I do not have these issues when using SumatraPDF v3.4.6., but as soon as I replace the SumatraPDF binary with v3.5.1 the problem arises, both with the SLister and SumatraPDF plugins.

You could try the current version: SumatraPDF-3.5.2 - 25.10.2023.

Thanks for noting, of course that's already my plan. Though reading SumatraPDF'S version history that shouldn't make any difference regarding my issue. I'm going to try out further this evening.

I wouldn't rely on that entirely.
I know a few programme authors who have already launched a "silent update". :)

That doesn't help, I already updated to this version.

As a work-around, I use my installed PDF-XChange with TC set to Explorer view.
With this, there is no focus problem.

sLister - Quick test with SumatraPDF-3.5.2 - 25.10.2023

wincmd.ini [Configuration]

Code: Select all

SingleClickStart=1
  1. Ctrl+Q - Quick View Panel (switch on): OK
  2. Cursor keys (up/down) do not work at all or not correctly(!!)
  3. Ctrl+Q - Quick View Panel (switch off): Hangs!
Turning off the Quick View panel with Ctrl+Q is difficult.
  4. Ctrl+Q - Quick View Panel (switch on): OK
Pointing with the cursor to other PDF files (below/above) works!
  5. Ctrl+Q - Quick View Panel (switch off): OK
  6. Strg+Q: OK, TAB: Not possible
  7. ...
What is there to test further?

This only reinforces my view that I made a plugin change to TCSumatraPDF Plugin at the right time.

Yes, I also changed to the SumatraPDF plugin, but I only had the problem that ESC didn't work.
Unfortunately, the focus problem is common for SLister and the plugin
as it comes from SumatraPDF itself.
