Hello,

In TC 10 their is a very great new feature that make that now it's read the thumbnail of pictures in their EXIF data and this also for camera RAW file that are quite large. Most of the time the raw file contain very big "thumbnail" picture or even some time they contain a preview picture in quite large size (some time the same size as the original). so suggestion is than in the quick view panel, for raw pictures, instead of showing binary data (actual behavior), we can show the picture contained in their EXIF data ? for example for the raw files taken from my sony camera they contain thumbnail in 1600*1200.

Hi,
this is already possible.

Configuration -> Options... -> Edit/View -> Configure internal viewer... (Configure Lister) -> Multimedia ->
Define view method by file type... -> Add... -> *.arw -> OK -> Lister: view methods by file type ... Please choose default view modes:
click on the '+'-button -> click on "8 Explorer Preview" -> OK, OK, OK, OK.

Ctrl+Q shows *.arw files in "Explorer Preview"-mode.

(Even a preview with Ctrl+Q on a *.LNK file is possible.
If the Lister is called with F3, you have to select "8 Explorer Preview" for *.LNK files under "Options"
or simply press the number 8 <in my case the uLister is called otherwise>).

thanks tuska, but unfortunatly because of this bug: https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=75054 I can not install raw image extension and then Explorer preview don't show anything for Camera Raw files (like arw file). Also even if their was not this bug, I m affraid that it's will be very slow to show the image compared to just read the exif metadata

I would just like to add that when I preview (CTRL+Q) an image (*.arw) - which you have uploaded - with a size of approx. 42 MB,
there is only a minimal delay in viewing on my PC (even after a restart of TC 10.00).

Windows 10 Pro (x64) Version 21H1 (OS build 19043.1110) | TC 10.00 x64/x86
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.4OGHz, 16 GB RAM

The same here.
The Explorer preview with the installed Raw image extensions has almost no delay on QuickView.
My default of using the PhotoViewer lister plugin is only a second slower.

The question was for Windows 7, so your link doesn't help.
Also the links I gave are original Microsoft tools.

There are a few versions of MS Camera Codec Pack:
  1. For Windows XP - RAWViewerSetup.exe available in Powertoys for Windows XP, only 32-bit version.
  2. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 - codecs downloadable for Photo Gallery included in Windows Live Essentials (WLE), both 32- and 64-bit versions:
    • MicrosoftCodecPack version 16.0.652.621 for WLE 16.0;
    • MicrosoftCodecPack version 16.4.1620.0719 for WLE 16.4, Windows 7 only.
  3. For Windows 8.1 - MicrosoftCameraCodecPack version 6.3.9721.0 (Windows 8.1 are Windows NT6.3).
  4. For Windows 10 - Raw Image Extension listed previously in this thread.
Codecs for older systems may be easier available outside of Microsoft, so I've given keywords rather than direct links. All downloads are digitally signed with MS certificates.
