Lister opens .webm as text file

Post by *wololowins »

Windows 10
TC10 64bit

I've got many webm files with emojis in their names and lister opens them as text file every time. Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

That is not related to the file names.
You have to add *.webm to the Additional multimedia files types.
Configuration Edit/View / Configure internal viewer/ Multimedia
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

Yes, I added. Other webms are played fine. There’s a problem only with emojis in their names. Other file types that are not added in Additional multimedia files types, like .mp4, and have emojis are working good btw.

I can confirm that Unicode doesn't work with webm files. I will try to find out the reason.

This should be fixed in TC 10.5 beta, please test it!

TC opens webm as binary with fixed length (not text) for very long file names - when the length of path+filename is longer than 259 characters.

That's not the bug described here - many functions do not work with names longer than 259 characters.

It's about WEBM files having e.g. Chinese or Cyrillic characters when the regional settings don't use Chinese or Cyrillic.

It's just humble reminder. Some people don't expect that there can be more than one reason of the reported problem.

Then please make a new bug report! This is a different problem, and so far no one has tried to reproduce it. :(

Have tried, but failed. What are the steps to reproduce the problem?

1. Try viewing a webm file with F3, and switch to the internal viewer with '4' if necessary. You may need to add *.webm to the list of additional multimedia file types in the Lister configuration.
2. Now rename the file by adding some Chinese or Cyrillic, e.g. 中国 or Русский. When you try to play it now with the internal viewer, it will fail.

I also tried to reproduce the long name problem, but webm files played just fine both on drives with 8.3 names enabled and drives without them. Maybe it's because I'm using the LAV filters.

I can't view any webm file with F3 using multimedia file type. Do I need to install something? I'm using Windows 11.

When I double click the file, it plays with the Films and tv app.

I'm using the LAV filters as suggested by TC in the lister configuration. You don't need to install them, just unpack them to the filter32 or filter64 directory, respectively.

Problem confirmed using TC10.00.

Tested OK using TC10.50b2 32bit and 64bit, using LAV filters and Windows 11
