Packing files with Encrypt option is not working?

Post by *monstro »

Hi.
I wanted to pack some files with Encrypt option.
When I do this, I still can double-click on the "encrypted" zip files, and it doesn't ask me for any password, opens the content right away.

Zip does not encrypt the filename, just the file.
Try to view the file and you will be asked for a password.

The password is remembered until TC is shut down or minimized.

It is configurable:
Help wrote:[Packer]
KeepPackerPassword=0 Used together with option "RememberLastPassword". Allows you to keep last archive password when:
1: The program is minimized
2: The screen saver starts
3: both

RememberLastPassword=0 Set to 1 to remember the last used archive password for all other archives (packing+unpacking) until TC is closed, minimized or Windows goes to sleep
Can also be set via the GUI during the packing with encryption- see: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/rememberpassword.png

"Remember (until program is closed or minimized)" is not set by default, so you must have chosen the option during the packing.

Try to view the file and you will be asked for a password.
I understand that  I was talking about the file content.

And I still can open it without a password after I closed Total Commander. I can even open it from Windows file explorer.

Not confirmed here.
The content is encrypted and TC or Windows Explorer ask for a password to view or copy the files.
Try with a fresh ini file, something is wrong with your config.

When you open the zip file (in Full View), do you se an e in the Attr column for each file - if you don't, then the files are not encrypted.

I never see an e in the attributes forZip files with encryption.
I guess you only see that if you encrypt a file with the OS file encryption.

No, also if I pack with TC's internal packer. It is the files inside the zip that has the e's - not the zip file itself.

Maybe your Attr. column isn't wide enough - the e's are appended to the end of the attributes.
So are the c's for compressed files.

There I have the e.
So I was misunderstanding your post
