[bug] when restart, TC cannot re-open virtual folders

Post by *xbeta »

With default or DIYed configurations, restarted TC will open the folders the same as last time.
But when some virtual folder is opened, such as "my videos", it will be lost when restarted, and be changed to c:/

ps.
1. tested in my daily used TC v10 32bit, and also in a new installed 64bit TC v10.
2. tested in Win10 64bit Home, Chinese Simplifed
3. It's OK when use c:\Users\zhangyx\Videos ; failed in \\视频\ (in English \\my videos\)

Whether \\Videos can be opened at TC startup depends on how you entered \\Videos

1. If you for example use TC's menu: "Commands" -> "Open Desktop Folder" and go into "Libraries" and then into "Videos" - then that \\Videos folder is opened at TC startup. You can also cd ::{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}\{491E922F-5643-4af4-A7EB-4E7A138D8174} to get there

2. But if you instead use TC's drive combobox and choose "+ Computer (drive overview)" and then go into "Videos" - then that \\Videos can NOT be opened at TC startup. You can also use cd ::{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}\Videos to get there.

The two different \\Videos folders does not necessarily contain the same, nr. 2 here above is a subset of no. 1 - see: https://madsenwold.dk/tcmd/virtualvideos.png

Actually none of the virtual folder you can access via TC's drive combobox -> "+ Computer (drive overview)" can be opened at TC startup.

Total Commander can only restore virtual folders which can be stored as an UUID. Sometimes it's not possible to get back the UUID from the virtual folder, then it cannot be stored in the wincmd.ini.

In TC's history it is possible to go back to a folder like ::{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}\Videos until TC is restarted - how come the folder can reside in the history during the session, but it cannot be saved for future use?

The history stores binary objects called "item id list", which point to these virtual folders. Only when you exit TC and the history gets saved, TC tries to get this textual representation of the item id list.
