Tools to add

Post by *gerald_leaf »

I would like to see the following tools listed but someone will have to find a category:

======
Rufus - Rufus is a tool for Windows that lets you create several different kinds of bootable devices from external drives such as USB pen drives and SD cards. Its versatility makes it possible to both format a drive and install Linux, Windows and even FreeDOS disk images, integrated in the tool. Very fast and works with many ISOs.

A very interesting and detailed read at the website: https://rufus.ie/en/

Source code: https://github.com/pbatard/rufus

No installation is necessary; just download and go. Multiple language support. System Requirements: Windows 7 or later, 32 or 64 bit doesn't matter.
======
MiniTool Partition Wizard Free 12.5

Webste: https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

As the best free disk partition software favored by over tens of millions of users, MiniTool Partition Wizard Free helps users to repartition hard drive, format partition, check file system, align SSD partition, measure SSD performance, convert FAT to NTFS, and more on Windows 10/8/7. Aiming to become the most powerful free partition manager in the long term, it keeps offering ever-increasing new features like Disk Benchmark and Space Analyzer to bring users the best experience.

Reconfigure Disk Partition: Create/Delete/Format Partition; Move/Resize Partition; Wipe Disk/Partition; Merge/Split Partition; Convert FAT to NTFS; Copy Disk/Partition.

Sorry but this is the wrong board to suggest freeware which is not realated to TC at all.
Also for Windows tools like Ventoy are the better one to make bootable sticks.

It is a matter of taste and depends on required tasks. For common tasks Rufus is better because it is ten times smaller.

Last time I had to select tools by size was in the times of Diskette drives.
A very long time ago :)

Is it a category here on the forum or in the wiki you are referring to?

In the forum we have this thread: https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=137 - but it has not been used for years - the wiki replaced it: viewtopic.php?t=10750 - as seen here: https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Useful_3rd_party_tools_to_complement_TC
License #524 (1994)
Danish Total Commander Translator
TC 11.03 32+64bit on Win XP 32bit & Win 7, 8.1 & 10 (22H2) 64bit, 'Everything' 1.5.0.1371a
TC 3.50b4 on Android 6 & 13
Try: TC Extended Menus | TC Languagebar | TC Dark Help | PHSM-Calendar

That Wiki page is pretty fun, it contains a lot of software that either is not related to file management at all (e.g. Miranda IM), or very outdated, or can't be used with TC at all (e.g. NTFS4DOS).

There will be some changes made. Tools that have gone through a Domain change will have the URLs removed and you will have to use alternative search methods if you need to have access to that tool.

I wanted to trash the really old stuff that only works in DOS (e.g. NTFS4DOS), but was advised not to remove them.

I think that there should be multiple lists with different headers, e.g. "list of tools that may be integrated with tc", "list of useful tools for windows", "list of outdated tools that were useful years ago"... :D

.. or ..

create a thread "Useful tools 2021/2022" and start a new one in 2023.

That way all/most entries will be relevant, without loosing the historical perspective.

I think that main page titled as "Useful_3rd_party_tools_to_complement_TC" should only contain relevant tools, other ones should be moved to separate topics that may be referenced from the main page.
