might please added an estimate data size selected in the copy/move ?

Post by *giulia »

Hi
I really love total commander , is the best file manager ever made , i like it so much that i would like to have older version (i mean like v4 or v5 or even v1 )

might be please added an estimate data size selected in the copy/move feature ?

i had to do for some clients, they were close to me , the copy started and after a while i got the error no free space disk is full!!

I had to drop down tc and use another file manager

would be a beautitul new feature for the new year and xmass (late is better than never)

please could be taken in consideration?
thanks

Do you know "Calculate Occupied Space" command/feature under "File" menu?
May be called by CTRL+L keyboard shortcut by default.
Shows size of all selected files and folders and space on target drive.

Hi
I mean I would like after a selection of files/folder(and subfolder) have an estimate data size before starting a copy or move of a lot of data , and a warning about the selection data is xxxGB and target has has xxGB freespace!
A normal File Manger calculate the data to copy and the free space and not start to copy/move and stops with no free space disk is full!!
thanks

Help file says that wincmd.ini has a setting

SizeCheck=1 Check if there is enough disk space on target before copying

1 is the default value even if the entry is non existent in the .ini file.
But it seems there is not difference if the entry is set to 1 or 0 or there is not an entry at all.

Possible bug or some superseded/obsolete setting?
Can other users confirm or comment?

2giuliaGood to know.
Let's wait for another user to confirm or shed some light on this, then I'll file a bug report.

This should explain the SizeCheck setting: viewtopic.php?t=5005. Basically, it checks each file separately.

I don't believe it is hard at all, just being neglected over time.
Maybe thread should be open in the TC suggestions sub-forum.

TC does not show an estimate in the F5 copy confirmation dialog, because it would have to determine the size of all selected folders before showing the dialog, which can be very slow.

I could try getting it with a delay via background thread.

Hi
It would really great have it
maybe an option in the options -> copy/delete , maybe an option close to "copy date/time of directories" , so we can enable and disable
an option like calculate selection data for copy/move operation
So we can keep TC fast and responsive for everyday copy/mode operations like now , and when we need we can quickly enable this option and copy/move a big ammount of data without stopping the middle of the progression or at the 90% of the operation , error there is no enough space
thanks
