[TC 10.50b3] Cannot apply any file time with 2 am

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 10.50b3] Cannot apply any file time with 2 am

Post by *deus-ex »

I'm unable to apply any file time-stamp with the hour set to 2 am, all other figures from 00:xx-24:xx do work fine though. The same issue applies to beta 1, while v10.50b2 and v10.00 are not affected.

EDIT: The issue described above is actually related just to a set of files I extracted from the archive WinMerge-2.16.20-x64-Setup.exe, available from here. How is that? Can anyone reproduce and explain?

No problem here. How do you extract files?

It's a known bug in beta 1 which was fixed in beta 2 and later:
20.04.22 Fixed: Files - Change attributes not working when using 12 hour AM/PM time format (32/64)

In you report you already write that it works in beta 2, so can we move it to fixed bugs?

Hi Christian, let me rephrase for more clarity:

I unpacked a couple of files from the SFX-archive WinMerge-2.16.20-x64-Setup.exe using innounp.exe. Trying to apply a file date of 02:16 am to the extracted files failed for me both with TC v10.50 beta 1 and beta 3. TC v10.50 beta 2 and TC v10.00 do work fine for me.

EDIT: I have all v10.50 beta releases available, should you like me to do any further tests.

Just tried on TC x 64 10.50 beta 3
WinMerge-2.16.20-x64-Setup.exe - sha1 sum -

Code: Select all

be5d03cfbc3fae37e1d5746c88a41eef8dfed144
extracted with innounp.exe version 0.50, command line

Code: Select all

innounp.exe -x WinMerge-2.16.20-x64-Setup.exe
Change attributes on files or files and directories - 6 tries with some small changes - time:
2.00
2.16
02.00.00
02.16.00
02.00.00a
02.16.00a
All went OK

I cannot reproduce this.

How did you specify the time?
2:00a
2:00:00a
or just
2:00
2:00:00
?

Well, today I cannot reproduce it anymore, either. That is rather weird, the day of the report I was able to reproduce it. For completeness, here's a screenshot of the settings I applied in the file attributes dialog. Probably nothing out of the ordinary, but I leave that for the inclined viewer to decide. Note that I use dashes instead of colons, but AFAIK that's a valid approach and doesn't make any difference for the issue.

Anyways, huge thanks for your time checking back on the issue, Christian. I think we can close this case then. :)

Excerpt from TC online help:

Dialog box: Change attributes - Time:
Here you can enter the desired time. You can leave out the seconds (they will be set to 0). It's also possible to enter a partial time. Example: hh:10:ss to change just the minutes. The letters and separators don't matter, so for example aa.10.aa will also work.

deus-ex,
Interesting. Where did you find the online help? I only have an offline file.

TIA

It's included with every Total Commander distribution. You appear to be unfamiliar with the term online help in that regard?

deus-ex,
Indeed  I don't think I remember it being used in such a context. Thanks for the explanation.

That was the reason why it didn't work in beta 1 - I replaced all chars with placeholders, so am and pm didn't work any more.

I will change the help to:
The letters and separators don't matter (except for a and p, used for am/pm), so for example xy.10.xy will also work.
