3D file viewer WCpfrep problem - or alternative viewer

Post by *Olfert »

I manage and view a lot of 3D STL files on a daily basis and I presently use WCpfrep found on TotalCmd.net which works just fine except that TC somehow keeps a viewed file locked so that I can't move og delete the file without closing and restarting TC.

Does anyone have a clue as to why TC keeps the viewed file locked?
Or maybe know of an alternative viewer that is just as quick and easy to use as WCpfrep and can be closed by a single key (preferable ESC)? The last part is rather important as I move through lots of files quickly and I don't want to have to reach for ALT+F4, CTRL+W or the like...

I know Win10 can display STL files just fine but it is very slow and you can't close it by a single key like ESC.

If thumbnails are enough
the Microsoft Powertoys provide them for stl files.
Works fine here
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

Hello -- I'm brand new to TC and evaluating it right now. I've been using File Explorer with a 3D previewer plugin from github. Thumbnails are enough for me, but I'm not sure exactly what I need to implement to get Horst.Epp's solution in place. Even better would be the ability to pop open a rotatable/zoomable preview of these files - but being new to TC I'm not sure how I would associate a 'viewing' app within TC.

Could someone provide me any hints or tips?

Thanks in advance!

Install the PowerToys from Microsft.
In PowerToys settings under File Explorer add-ons
enable the Thumbnail Icon Preview for .stl
