Multi-Rename Tool: Coloured background for change candidates and replacement elements.

Post by *Phred »

In the MRT, when we have a mass of files whose names we want to change and enter change-characters in, say, the Search and Replace fields, then changes are immediately reflected in the 'New name' column - however it's not always obvious that our specification is what we really want.
Looking through the simple B&W text we can easily miss changes they we inadvertently have invoked, and then go ahead and make the wrong, and right, changes without realizing it.
Indeed, we may miss entirely that some files have had no changes invoked because of faulty Search/Replace specs.

So I'm suggesting that the characters to be replaced/added be colour-highlighted. (Nothing can be done about characters that are removed, I suppose, except for a coloured marker telling us that there is a change imminent.)
I have mocked up a couple of examples:

For your consideration.

I note that Bulk-Rename Utility does most of this.

To indicate that they are 'live', the individual change agent control headings adopt colours when they are used.
And it has a Reset button. As does each live control, a temporary disable tick, more...
