Total Commander

hiho,

als erstes mal - und das sage ich wahrlich nicht oft über ein stk. software: der tc ist ein echt geniales teil. ich wüsste nicht, wie ich ohne tc auf android arbeiten könnte?

nur ne dumme frage wegen googles "beschneidungs-politik":
spricht eigentlich was dagegen, die unkastrierte version des total commanders in einen alternativen market wie fdroid zu legen oder ein repo für den fdroid aufzumachen?
falls es das vielleicht sogar schon gibt - sorry - wo krieg ich bitte den link her? *g*

ich weiß ja nicht, wie es anderen geht, aber mir geht google mittlerweile so derartig auf den nerv, dass ich gerade dabei bin, system und tools auf alternatives umzustellen.
meiner user-faulheit entsprechend würde ein - dann sowieso vorhandener - alternativer market einfach angenehmer sein, als "händisches" saugen in einem forum. vor allem wäre das aktuell halten dann wesentlich angenehmer.

F-Droid ist für Open Source reserviert. Total Commander für Android ist zwar gratis, aber nicht Open Source.

Even if FDroid is only dedicated to free software, you can have your own repository for Total Commander (apart from the official FDroid repository) that you can maintain youself.

There are other applications doing that, you can check here a couple of repo examples:
NewPipe: https://newpipe.net/FAQ/tutorials/install-add-fdroid-repo/
LibRetro: https://fdroid.libretro.com/repo/

It would be really great to have your own repo so your users can have automatic updates from a trusted source.

I don't really understand your point, he doesn't need to make the application open-source, he can keep the source proprietary.

Mr. Ghisler can just create a repo under his own domain (ghisler.com) and keep his own repo, totally self-managed.
The repo would contain the apks, no source code involved.
I think the repo is just a single folder with some specific file structure, but I haven't looked into the details.

Users like us would just need to download the Fdroid client and then add Ghisler's repo to have automatic updates of the uncrippled Totalcmd app.

Easy for Ghisler, easy for the users.

Droidify kennen gelernt und fühlt sich echt gut an soweit :

habs im Auto-Pumpkin(AndroidRadio) Droidify installiert und im Händy..
fühlt sich recht gut an... und, sind ein paar mehr quellen,
die man an-klickern kann.. aber vorsicht, manche quellen braucht man wirklich nich..
also nich alles wie besch..t anklitschen..

Sorry to bump this thread, but is there any chance of having your own FDroid repo for Total Commander, as discussed above?

As it's your own repo, you don't need to release the source code, just prepare a folder in your server (e.g: ghisler.com/fdroid/repo) with RepoMaker and upload your updated APKs there.

Other authors of free and non-free software are already doing it.

It would come in handy for you and for your users.

What's the advantage over a direct download? You still have to add the repo to F-Droid then...

but it's only once to add to an listing and then it is check the new version via the app and tell if there an new version > Actual Version to the User via Info ! so, you upload it to an Repo, the repo is scanning from the app and the app checks for the user if there a more new version on the repo and repott via popup or an other message .. "There is a New Version" or "There is a Update" ... and on an normal Download have the User ever to look and hold it self up to date.. the App on an repo make this automatical.. for this is it a biiiit inmportant to have an repository.. and spezially some programm like yours.. Total commander for Android.. should you have an own repository where you could upload your installer and your udated Total commander, alpha, Beta and Stable + APK installer .. Alpha Chanel, Beta chanel and Stable Chanel.... and is this in a Own TC-Repo with channels... but this could do anyone for you who know what he does.. like them who update the APKMirror, he could make a TC-Repo for F-Droid like Apps or contact F-Droid and ask in the Forum if anyone add it (you as Owner).. btw.. F-Droid have also OSMAnd+ (so the Fullversion) and is under the F-Droid-Maked ones of the most honest ones who have the cleanest Repository.. so, have on an webserver an own Total Commander (tcrepo) Repository who is linked in at F-Droid would it really good .. If exist an F-Droid mirror, can this added on other App Programms

Mainly, you add it once and you have automatic updates everytime you upload a new version.

And, as blaky mentioned, you can even have different release channels for betas and so.

Plus, users who prefer direct downloads can still do it and you can link directly to the repo, no need for separate download locations.

open the ftp/Webdav/sftp, "pump up the jam" and you have "all you can eat" for the Users
in short.. if all works..

and.. The Users become directly a Feedback to exist a new Release *blinngghh*
and stay up to date..

In this case the F-Droid app is just the client that manages repos. The repo has nothing to do with F-Droid.
I use several repos for updating apps not available in the Google Play Store.

I have looked into this, but it does not seem feasible. I'm mainly a Windows developer (where I make my living), but the RepoMaker software is only available for Linux:

There also seems to be a docker container to be installed on the server, but it does not preserve its settings and is only meant to be used for demo purposes. So I really don't see how I could make my own repository. I can't just put all files and an index xml on a server, it needs to be signed somehow too.
