[TC10.50rc3] Compare by Content - Sync button - Menu displayed on top of button

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC10.50rc3] Compare by Content - Sync button - Menu displayed on top of button

Post by *white »

Compare by Content: Unlike with various other buttons in Total Commander, the menu displayed by the Sync button is displayed on top of the button instead of under it. Screenshot

This is not a bug. It is a feature and it is totally ok in this way.

I think it's OK because the first line in that menu does nothing when you click on it, so you have to move down anyway.

I see, so the reason you display the menu below the button for the F7 button in copy dialog, various buttons in MRT, button bar buttons which show a subbar as menu, directory hotlist button, directory history button, is because the first line of the menu doesn't do nothing?

Don't you think it is better below the button?

Well, the Sync button menu has a descriptive header (in bold) "Method for comparing text within a line:" - I don't think any other menu in TC has that - so maybe it is fair enough to handle this menu a little differently.

So you see it as a kind of dialog window where the title bar is the text in bold and which might as well be displayed in the center of the screen?

Menus are linked to controls like menu bar and buttons. They are generally displayed below the control to give visual feedback that they are related.

Well, it could just as well have been - notice that it has a "bullet" next to the chosen option, and that the options have shortcut keys - much more like a menu than a dropdown selection box. But maybe it would be more consistent if it opened in a regular dialog box like the one you get when you click the ANSI <-> ANSI button.

That would be much better.

Again, it is ok in this way.
