first time startup total commander 1050.rc3 very slow Windows 11

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

I see this too, it's indeed caused by Windows Defender. Sorry, nothing I can do about it.

I also have Windows Defender but I have set a Process Exclusion for totalcmd64.exe.
This way there is no start-up delay.

I would also like to set this up.
Can you please give me a description (in german)?

I've only had Windows 11 for a few days and used different security software before that.

2Horst.Epp
Thanks for this tip, because I have the impression that this can also speed up the preview (Ctrl+Q) considerably in TC,
when you call it for the first time.

If you want to move one of a large number of buttons to a different position (cut, paste)
you can also notice a significant improvement in speed(!).

The good thing is that Microsoft does not slow down its own processes, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

Also, thanks for the link - setup is easy with this information.

Here is another description in German language:
Windows Defender - Prozess ausschließen (zB TOTALCMD64.EXE, TOTALCMD.EXE)
Hinzufügen eines Ausschlusses zu Windows-Sicherheit

Code: Select all

Start -> Einstellungen -> Datenschutz und Sicherheit -> Windows-Sicherheit -> Viren- und Bedrohungsschutz ->
Einstellungen für Viren- & Bedrohungsschutz: Einstellungen verwalten
Ausschlüsse: Ausschlüsse hinzufügen oder entfernen
UAC-Abfrage bestätigen (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzerkontensteuerung)
Ausschlüsse: + Ausschluss hinzufügen -> Prozess ->
Prozessname eingeben: TOTALCMD64.EXE -> Hinzufügen
Prozessname eingeben: TOTALCMD.EXE   -> Hinzufügen
FERTIG!

C:\totalcmd\TOTALCMD.EXE
C:\totalcmd\TOTALCMD64.EXE

It will be due to the "Submission of Samples" setting in Windows Defender. I always turn this off.
I have just installed TC10.50RC3 on Windows 11 as a test. And it starts fast. Apparently there is no need to upload the EXE to microsoft, which probably delays the start.

Also, it depends on: Settings > Privacy & Security > General > "Let Windows improve startup and search results by tracking app launches."
