totalcm10: missed "Select Left File for Compare"

Post by *mi2sh »

Missed the following operation: "Select Left File for Compare"
Configuration-> Operation: Left mouse button (Windows Standart)

Right-click on the selected file -> the list of actions has no "Select Left File for Compare"

I don't understand your problem. Why do you expect that "Select Left File..." can be executed from the context menu? I could name you dozens of other TC commands that are not available by a right-click on a file. Incorporating all that commands in the right-click menu woul result in a huge context menu that nobody wants to read.

And what has this to do with the configuration setting "Operation: left mouse button..."? This setting means that you mark files according to the windows standard and not with a right click as in other file managers.

"Select Left File for Compare" doesn't sound like something in TC. What does this context menu item do? To me, it sounds more like an item from a shell extension from another comparison program.

I totaly agree - it must be a shell extension from another program. I just checked TC 9.00 - no such context menu item.

Probably the shell extension is from "Beyond Compare" - look at the screenshot under "Integrated into Windows Explorer" on this page: https://www.mrjamiebowman.com/software-development/the-greatest-tool-ever-beyond-compare/

Yes, its from Beyond Compare.
I have it but never use this context menu entry, I even removed it.
The integration in TC is much simpler to start a comparision.

Which TC versions and "bitnesses" exactly are you comparing? I have a feeling that one of your TCs is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit. If so, what you see is completely normal because TC 32-bit doesn't show 64-bit shell extensions in its context menu. At least not on the same level, but they can be found in the "x64" submenu.

Are these TCs running on the same system?

Are you using the same wincmd.ini file for both TC's?

Anyway - to rule out that any TC-setting is the cause, try to start both of your TC's with a fresh ini file.

That's weird. Try Explorer++ to see if the context menu item shows up there. My suspicion is that the shell extension does something that prevents it from appearing in TC 10.

Maybe he has Windows 11 and such entries are no longer on the top level
of the context menu.
They are shown under the "Show more options” entry,
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3447)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1372a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
