Left/Right arrows stop responding after full screen view in lister

Post by *mhtcf »

TC version 10.0 final, using recommended LAV filters for interval viewer, I selected a few .mp4 files and started the interval viewer for the selected group. In initial windowed mode, the video FF/Rewind works with the left/right arrows but after I enter full screen (Alt-Enter) they stop working, even if I go back to the initial windowed mode. Alt Left/Right still works to jump to Prev/Next video. FF/Rewind again works with the left/right arrows after I escape back to TC then view the set of files again.

This happens because cursor keys only work when the focus is on the current position track bar. When you press Tab to focus the volume track bar, the cursor keys will increase/decrease the volume instead.

When you go to full screen, the player controls are hidden and therefore the track bar doesn't have the focus. When you exit full screen, the track bar doesn't re-gain the focus. Press Tab to focus it, then you can use the cursor keys again.

I don't consider this a bug.

it will probably sound strange - but why you offer to do it to the user - if it can be done programmatically automatically? Why should they remember - what and in what sequence should be done to get the desired effect?

For me hotkeys should work without any additional foo-shmoo.

With the focus of the position track bar in mind, I was messing around some more and found that if I click to make the track bar in focus before going into fullscreen mode (Alt-Enter), the bar remains visible and focused in full screen mode and FF/Rewind works with the left/right arrows. While it's not true full screen mode, it's better than maximizing the window since the borders are hidden. It would be nice if there was an option to make this the default behavior (making the initial click of the bar unnecessary) but this isn't a big deal to make it work the way I prefer. Thank you for the explanation. Also, I know "n" and "p" work for next/prev file but is there another set of hotkeys for FF/Rewind?

Yes, Shift+Cursor keys (small steps) and Ctrl+Cursor keys (large steps) also work in full screen mode, they are the hotkeys for the user-configurable "Step by" buttons.

I will return the focus to the play position track bar when re-showing the player controls.
