Changing the behavior of text fields when the window is switched

Post by *FitRiver »

I have been using Total Commander for two decades and can't imagine my life without it.

There is one thing I have always wondered about. When I open a dialog with a text field (e.g. for copying files) and start editing the path, then switch to a different window, and back to TC, the whole text gets selected which discards the position of the cursor. I usually need to switch the windows in order to copy the file name so losing the position of the cursor is rather inconvenient.

Is there any way how to configure Total Commander to maintain the position of the cursor during such a scenario?

Not as far as I know.

I would like such an option too - so if you put a suggestion for this in the TC suggestions (English) section on the forum - I'll support it gladly.

It's not done by Total Commander, this is standard behaviour of edit boxes. For example, you can try this:
1. Run notepad.exe
2. Show the File - Open dialog
3. Type some text -> the cursor will be behind the text
4. Switch to some other program and back -> the text will be selected
