Drag&drop toggle between move/copy

Post by *CptDiomedes »

I would appreciate the option to toggle whether drag&drop means copy or move.

I have seen topics about this in the past met with silly responses such as: "buy a better mouse" or "at least it's consistent unlike Windows" etc. Please refrain from such comments, thank you.

The issue with the current setup (move needing extra steps) is twofold:
1) it is simply a matter of convenience: having to press more buttons (shift/rmb) is tedious if you move a lot of files one by one

2) it is barely possible: I have a laptop and its touchpad is incapable of left and right click at the same time, and I have poor coordination - I would need an extra hand to reach for shift while holding down left mouse button with one hand and moving the cursor with my right hand.

I think this is a very reasonable feature request because there is no "right" way to make the default and only option (as copy is now) - it all depends on whether you move or copy more often. This is my first real unsolvable issue in years of using TC.

I actually think this is a reasonable request - as an option.

I would need an extra hand

If you right-click on the button OK or F2 Queue, then you will be able to perform a move operation instead of copying (and vice versa, copy instead of move, if you've opened the F6 Move dialog).

Is that a joke, sa16 ? :-) That's about as elaborate as I could think to make it... the workflow you propose means:
1) select the files
2) open the target folder in the other view
3) change focus back to first view
4) open F5 dialog (btw. why not open F6 right away and save the next step?)
5) right click on a button
6) back out of the target folder in the other view

whereas what I would like is:
1) select the files
2) drag and drop on target folder in the other view

And just to be sure I'll spell this out: the ability to move by drag and drop without opening a folder is important when you've got a bunch of files in a single directory that you need to sort out into different subdirectories in one folder (think organizing documents by topic/content). Having to open the destination folder and then back out again every time slows you down a lot.

1) select the files
2) drag and drop on target folder
3) right click on the button OK or F2 Queue

P.S.
Configuration- -> Misc. --> Get confirmation before
On Drag&Drop (copying files with mouse)
