messages about deleting the source files (if they are readonly, hidden or system files)
Aha! As I said -
for a very long time ago I turned off something
and this one element is exactly from this case.
Of course in settings I turned off completely getting msgs for readonly, hidden or system files.
Useless info for F6 operation. If i decided to move - I MUST get the proper results and only ERRORS can frustrate me
and so they can be shown for me.

Re: moving files issue

Post by *lneam »

this text is my first post. Enyone can check it for the true of my words
last years, i have notice a stange issue during files move from disk to disk. When i select files from inside a folder or from multiple folders to move, the sutable procedure is ... to show a message at the end of the move of the first file to delete it. But there is no message. When all the files has moved, then it shows all the questions one by one ... "do you want to delete the file xxxxx.xxx". When this is happening there is also one more issue. The bar of total progress size is start and restart at every new file. Also the total size of storage never goes at the final size.

- this issue is very rare. I have tested at both winXP and win7
- all the files or folders are "read only mark"
some users said to me solutions or ideas about what they think that understood from my issue. But they are wrong. I hope now with the bold text to be better for them

the question is very simple about the issue. The working philosophy of totalcmd is different between F6+enter move vs F6+F2 move. Why that ?

my opinion is ..
1. this is "by the design". If this is true, this is in some cases a big problem, because the user cannot know when the job will finish. At 99% of cases i use the copy files and this procedure has not issue because there is not delete for the files. At the end i delete manual the folders. For time to time, i use the move function, but there is a issue. I hope the app to add inside the Configuration > options, the ability for the user to choose when to see "messages" 1.from the first file or 2. all the questions at the end of the job
2. a real issue. At this case, the working philosophy must change

thanks to all for the time to help me

See: viewtopic.php?p=384436#p384436

Also - the philosophy is only different between F6+enter move vs F6+F2 move when SkippedFileCopy is not set to 0.

I haven't checked whether or not there's a difference between foreground and background transfer when it comes to confirmations to delete read-only files. So I don't know whether or not this is true - which could potentially be a bug, but could also depend on other things.

Putting that difference aside, I suggest to pay close attention to the copy/move dialog, clicking on the "Options >>" button in that dialog. There's an option "Overwrite/Delete read-only/hidden/system" in that dialog. When enabled, TC won't show a confirmation for such files. This can also be made permanent, i.e. enabled by default, by disabling the option(s) "Overwriting/Deleting read-only files" and/or "Overwriting/Deleting hidden/system files" in Configuration > Options > Misc > "Get confirmation before" right at the top of that page.

If you still have an issue with confirmations (still ignoring the difference between foreground/background transfer), I suggest you make some screenshots so that we might see what exactly we're talking about. A picture is worth more than a thousand words, and often this is true. Upload the screenshot(s) and link to it/them here.

Line number doesn't matter, section name is important. SkippedFileCopy should be added to [Configuration] section, which should be the very first section in wincmd.ini. You probably didn't use F1 to read TC Help or didn't read it carefully enough.

Proper settings are described by the developer in previously linked search results:

Do read them at last.

It was mentioned twice in the second post that the parameter SkippedFileCopy=0 belongs in the [Configuration] section of wincmd.ini:
Usher wrote: 2022-09-27, 02:49 UTC That change was introduced almost 10 years ago, in TC 8.50:
HISTORY.TXT wrote: 20.03.13 Added: Support delayed copying in case of errors (files without errors moved first) also when moving files between two different drives (32/64)
12.03.13 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] SkippedFileCopy=0 turns off new copy mode where files with errors are skipped and handled at the end (32/64)
10.03.13 Added: F5 copy: First copy all files where the user doesn't need to be asked and skip all with errors, ask at the end (32/64)
It worked when the first message was shown after 5 s or longer delay.
Later (in TC 9.0a) this delay was made configurable:
HISTORY.TXT wrote: 06.12.16 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] SkippedFileCopy=100 or more: Option to set a different delay (in ms) at start of a file operation during which a user can be asked whether he wants to overwrite a file (32/64)

No, it is the true.
You gave us the impression that none of us knows anything about TC
and only the Author may help you.
Belive me or not I use TC since Window 3.11 where ist was named Windows commander.
And I'm shure I know a lot more about TC than you :)

No, but 28 years more experienced than you. Anyway, when 3 people give you the same advice, and it doesn't work for you, it is pertinent to go back and read those answers again, to make sure you didn't miss something - which you afterall did, but only after telling us that we were all wrong:
