TC 10.52 x32: when you click on the tooltip, the focus of TC is lost

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC 10.52 x32: when you click on the tooltip, the focus of TC is lost

Post by *Fla$her »

Configuration - Display
☑ Show filename in file list as tooltip if truncated
.. ▢ Win32-style tips with file comments (if available)

When you click on a tooltip above a name that does not fit in the panel, TС window loses focus for half a second, and then the tooltip is hidden.
On x64, there is no such problem. There, the tooltip and focus remain in place.

Re: TC x64: A shadow remains after clicking on the tooltip above the name

Post by *ghisler(Author) »

NOT confirmed. The tip doesn't go away when I click on it. Only when I click on it a second time, it goes away and renaming starts, but there is no remaining shadow.

... and the focus is back to TC (but I guess that's what Fla$her wanted has meant anyways).

I can confirm this with TC10.52 x32 dark @ Win10x64 21H2.

There is no need for your addition.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Any idea where the focus is going? I still can't reproduce it here. Maybe some other program is stealing the focus? What happens when you press Alt+F4 while the focus is gone?

Not yet. I will analyze later...

It's strange:
If I just press Alt, the focus still comes back after the ~.5 sec is over.
If I press Alt+F4, the focus comes back *immediately* but TC does *not* close!

Interesting, so the focus did go to something else which you closed with Alt+F4!

It is unlikely that Alt+F4 closes something. If the focus is lost, we can press at least a thousand times, nothing will happen.
This problem is also observed during tests on a virtual machine. So it's not clear why you can't reproduce it.

Issue confirmed for all 32-bit TC versions. I'm using Windows 11.

I can also confirm it in 32bit TC 10.52 under Windows 7 and Windows 10.

This video: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/clickontooltip7.mp4 shows how TC's titlebar goes into non-active mode for a short time when clicking the tooltip for truncated file names.

Here on Windows 10: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/clickontooltip10.mp4

Nothing!

The focus does not go to any other open window and not to the Desktop either - and the focus on the "button" for the TC-window in the Taskbar also goes away.

It occurs both when I just hover the filename and when I use the cm_ShowHint command to activate the tooltip.

It is not a new thing - I can see it all the way back in TC 4.51, but not in the first 64bit TC = 8.00

Strange bug indeed. I personally can't reproduce it.
2petermad - huge thx for video (especially for mouse clicks) = but on my win10\11 - nothing similar here...

P.S. correction - this was on 64bit. my mistake...

The focus goes to the tooltip window.

Are you sure you used 32-bit TC?
