Multi-renaming tool - Batch renaming with a list of changes

Post by *before »

Sorry about opening a new topic but couldn't find anything close to my question.
I am looking for a solution to make a few different character replacement in one session. I often have to replace special characters in file names (á -> a, é -> e, ö -> o, etc) and I always did it manually. There are like 10 characters have to be replaced and the files are usually organized into different folders, so I have to replace all the characters in one folder then move to the next and start over, or set one rule and move through the folders. Both are really annoying.
So I need some kind of a batch processing where I have a saved rule-set and I can apply that to the selected files easily. Is there any option to get this functionality?

First of all - are you aware of possibility of multiple search and replace at once?
you can set e.g.:
search for: á|é|ö
replace with: a|e|o
after set up this press F2 and choose "Save settings", type name and save for latter use.
You can perform MRT action for search results or Branch View, no need for manually walking through directories.
Also you can use "MULTIRENAME" command with saved multi-rename settings.

Oh man, you are a life saver! Thank you very much!
I wasn't aware these options. :)
I have tried to use the MRT in a search result view once but got some error message so I gave it up!
Thank you again!

You can even get additionally speed up by creating button or user command, using MULTIRENAME command with auto execute and close options, e.g.:

command: MULTIRENAME==name_of_saved_settings
note two equal signs!
