Button to take me back to root?

Post by *Captain Quack »

I have no problems making direct icons for folders. But how do I make an icon to take me back to root? Sometimes I'm way down in a thread of folders and I have to go to top and enter, top and enter, top and enter etc.

That's what the [\] button (next to the [..] button) is for. BTW, going one level up is much easier with Ctrl+PageUp instead of Home/Enter (except on laptops with weird keyboard layouts).

It is even easier with Backspace :)

And easiest way to go to the root is Ctrl+\ keyboard hotkey

Backspace also can be used for going one level up.
For going straight to the root of the folder (or the locked folder if the tab is locked) default shortcut is CTRL+\.

Ctrl+\ does the job beautifully! Now I just have to remember it. My memory is pretty screwed up and frequently forget things I thought 2 seconds earlier. That's why I like buttons. I'll just have to practice it a lot and hope it sticks. Many things never do. Another sticky note on the edge of the monitor, lol. Thanks, everyone. I really do appreciate your help.

If you really prefer a button, that's the command to enter

Code: Select all

cm_GoToRoot
or just copy code

Code: Select all

TOTALCMD#BAR#DATA
cm_GoToRoot

wcmicons.dll

0
2001
then right click on empty space on buttonbar and choose "Paste"

You can find all TC internal commands in TOTALCMD.INC file in TC directory.

That did the trick Gral. I put it in right beside the others I use a lot. Thank you very very much for that. I really do appreciate it.

As mentioned earlier - you don't need to make a button in the buttonbar for this - it is already there - see: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/backspacebutton.png

For the button to be visible, one of the configuration options marked with 1, 2 or 3 in this screenshot has to be selected: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/backspacebutton2.png
