Imagine how powerful and useful such a function could be.

1. Properties of compressed files.
Inside the archives, we still have only basic information - the size (unpacked!), datetime of the file, attributes.
Modern packers can store much more information and sometimes it would be useful to be able to see it
e.g. creation date, packed size, method, additional data streams, checksums

2. Ability to save, edit, sort, view any user columns
There is now a DiskDir plugin that allows you to save basic information
With the new possibilities, we could save, edit, sort (with one click!) any kind of data.
Copy custom columns as text and use Excel or a similar editing program sounds like a joke for me.
Why should we use other programs when we have almost everything in TC?

3. Possibility to edit, convert, preview directly in the panel of many existing file formats, e.g.: view database files directly in file panel.
But even a preview of the text file directly in the file pane would be possible.
OK, it is possible now - save the text in a file with the lst extension and open it with the diskdir plugin and set unsorted order, but this is far from ideal - the dot causes that the following part of the text is treated as an extension and displayed in the next column.

This new format should allow only one field to be displayed, e.g "text" without the mandatory name + extension.
Also desirable function here would be to change the font depending on the format, e.g. for "diz" files, with semigraphic.

Further improvement are only a matter of imagination.

While adding archive plugin support to one of my content plugins I was missing such functionality, a feature which is there when in "content plugin mode" but is not present when in "packer plugin mode". And I wanted to provide some additional pieces of information to the user, but currently I can't unfortunately. So Support++!

1. What in terms of data acquisition speed will this give a fundamental advantage in comparison with the tooltips?

2. It sounds too naive. There are computational data (all sorts of sizes, etc.) that inherently cannot and should not be edited. And for those that could be edited, we need a huge amount of work by the authors of plugins. I just don't understand why this should happen on the basis of packer plugins, and not content ones?
And what is in TC? Editing is only available in the attributes dialog. And there have been less than a dozen plugins with this option for so many years.

3. I assume you mean the source panel? In another panel, you can view databases via Ctrl+Q.

1. It's all intent for view files properties inside archives - real or fake - something similar like archiver programs do.

in tooltips? Note that is only 49 files, what for 2000 files? You can really view all properties in tooltips?
So can i ask you for a screenshot, please?
For e.g. 7zip or RAR TC can request such a data from appropiate dll or even console program
For packer plugin it needs new API.

2. This part is for "fake" archives.
Imagine you can save all info as on previous linked images and retrieve, compare, cut, edit, convert, sort, delete.
Think about it as a enhancment of DiskDir packer plugin but for save full info from custom columns while diskdir plugin save only basic properties from TC full native view. Note that diskdir files format is just tab delimeter text so may be considered as a simplest database format.

3. Suprisingly it's about TARGET panel! - it's reason why i call this IDEA!
View files with Lister plugin in target panel is already existing feature.

While good preview of archives not exist you could consider a file pane behaving like a preview, while you browse files with Up/Down arrows only.
Enhancment from 1. part highly welcome here for viewing e.g packed size, checksum and so on.
