[TC 11.00b7 64bit] Search via "everything" not longer working?

Post by *aramshan »

Hi,

worked till beta6. Can anyone confirm this?

"readme.md" in a given directory is found without checkbox "everything" active.
"readme.md" in a given directory is not found with checkbox "everything" active.

Everything 1.4.1.1024 (x64) is working as a service. Searching directly in Everything for the same file works.
OS is Win11 Enterprise 10.0.22621 Build 22621, fully patched.

Not confirmed.
Everything based searches are still working fine in TC b7.
Btw. the Everything service has nothing to do with usage from TC,
its function is to prevent the UAC while the client indexes NTFS volumes.
The client should run in the background as suggested for a default Everything installation.
This is the option "Start Everything on system startup" under General.

Not confirmed.

I have tested with version 1.4.1.1024 (x64) - [Administrator]:
""readme.md" in a given directory IS FOUND with checkbox "everything" active."

Not confirmed.

If you open 'Everything's Search window, can you then find the readme.md file? Maybe you need to force a rebuild of 'Everything's database.

So a database rebuild may not help.

Maybe aramshan updated to 1.5 without noticing? 1.5 is invisible to Total Commander. Here are the instructions to use it:

Where should this link point to?

I doubt it:
aramshan wrote:Everything 1.4.1.1024 (x64)
I don't think you can update to the v 1.5 branch without noticing, 'Everything' does not advertise uddates to 1.5.x if you are running 1.4.x

Yes, I can confirm this. Have just been pointed to this thread by @tuska after having written a report myself in the general section while still unsure if this might be a bug in TC.
viewtopic.php?t=79373

Conditions to reproduce:
TC 11.00b7 x64
Win10_pro_for_Workstations 22H2 with latest patches (13.06.23) Build 19045.3086
just updated to Everything-1_4_1_1024_x64, running as service

Just enter any bare substring/word to search for
works without "Everything"-checkbox checked
result with "Everything"-checkbox checked: "No files found" - search aborted

Back to TC 11.00b6 x64:
search works as expected, with and without "Everything"-checkbox checked.

Just tested with the same setup, except my Windows is the Home version - I do not get a "No files found" when searching with 'Everything' enabled.

petermad wrote: 2023-06-16, 11:00 UTC Maybe you need to force a rebuild of 'Everything's database.
A sneaking suspicion I've had myself when contemplating possible culprits for this phenomenon. Unfortunately I'm far from being an expert on "Everything" and therefore utterly clueless about how this could be done. I've looked into the main-menu of the "Everything"-window and couldn't find anything close to "force/rebuild database". Any suggestions about how to enforce such a re-build would be most welcome.

But then - if the database was indeed corrupt - why on earth shouldn't this affect an identical search under TC 11.00b6 x64 in exactly the same manner?

Also I''d like to re-emphasize that I do not only get a "No files found"-message as a result - it also says: " - search aborted. ".

According to the old "debugging-gospel": "What has been changed (even slightly) since it ran flawlessly for the last time?" it seems to be obvious that it has to do with some - possibly minor - change between TC11v.b6 and v.b7, perhaps as minor as any changed default-setting in wincmd.ini?

Addendum: I'd like to add an important observation.
To exclude any collision with perhaps outlandish ini-parameters I renamed my wincmd.ini and thereby let TC generate a virgin new version thereof. Result: even with a virgin wincmd.ini the search will malfunction/terminate early without results with TC11b7 and "Everything"-box enabled/checked but will finish successfully and come up with the expected results without "Everything".

Contrary to that observation after reverting to previous version TC11b6 the identical search will succeed with AND without "Everything" as it should be.
