I tested as follows.
  1. Total Commander 11.03RC4 x64, x86 - 2.2.2024
Configuration > Quick Search > ◉ Letters - with search dialog
    1. QuickSearch eXtended Version 2.3.1 - *** ON *** (overrides "◉ Letters - with search dialog")
Search: | Search field with star at the top, followed by the cursor | Button "Filter" - Icon: "Ctrl+S" -> pressed |
Button: "Match only at beginning of files/folders" -> NOT pressed (tcmatch.ini - [general] match_beginning=0)
Button: "Case sensitive" -> NOT pressed (tcmatch.ini - [general] case_sensitive=0)
Button: "Invert result" -> NOT pressed (tcmatch.ini - [gui] invert_result=0)
      Button: "Simple search" (Dropdown) -> (tcmatch.ini - [general] simple_search_activate_char=)
      QuickSearch eXtended configuration:
☑️ Allow input, leading to empty results (TC restart needed)
      ☑️ Filter files
      ☑️ Filter folders
      %COMMANDER_PATH%\tcmatch.ini

      Code: Select all

HOW "Automatically adding "*" " does work???
it works if you use the command cm_SrcTabsList 1 or cm_SrcTabsList 3

If you want the feature to work always you can remap Ctrl+Shift+A to cm_SrcTabsList with parameter 1 - this wil not affect opening the tist by right-clicking next to a tab

2tuska
Parameter 1: cm_SrcTabsList 1, cm_TrgTabsList 1, cm_LeftTabsList 1, cm_RightTabsList 1
The * is displayed, but the letter must be entered twice instead of once.
Not confirmed - I only need to press a letter once (I don't use Quicksearc Extended).

For me, it works exactly as I have described here.
I have just tested it again.

TC 11.03RC4 32-Bit - without using QuickSearch eXtended
  1. Click on a button, e.g. with command: cm_SrcTabsList 1
  2. Press a letter, e.g. "t"
    1. The Quick Search toolbar of Total Commander appears and
    2. the * (asterisk) is automatically inserted in the search field.
    3. The filter button is displayed as pressed (without me doing anything)
    4. The letter "t" was NOT inserted automatically!
  3. The letter "t" must be pressed again to filter the search.

Sorry - my bad, i didn't notice in your first report that it concerned the 32bit version only. I can confirm that in 32bit TC 11.03rc4 it is necessary to press the letter twice after using cm_SrcTabsList 1 and 3

With cm_SrcTabsList 3 there is no problem in TC 11.03RC4 32-Bit,
as the Quick Search toolbar with the star is already displayed after clicking on the button
and you can then enter a letter which filters the search.

If you want the feature to work always you can remap Ctrl+Shift+A to cm_SrcTabsList with parameter 1 - this will not affect opening the list by right-clicking next to a tab
Strange decision. WHY it should NOT work if I called this list by RightMouseClick?

Please read the summary above, especially the HISTORY.TXT.
Then you will probably understand petermad's statement better.

---
If so, then I would redefine Ctrl+Shift+A for parameter 3, e.g. cm_SrcTabsList 3.

Yep, I did so, and exactly after that I wrote my post.
I do not see the real reasons why this behavior could not be done for CTRL+SHIFT+A WITHOUT the redefining.
And by default. OF course I can and will do such redefinition... but... it's strange...

Please explain exactly and in detail what you want with Ctrl+Shift+A.

The following currently applies - see point 3. in the summary above:
Ctrl+Shift+A: Show a searchable list of all open tabs (tab headers)

For example, would you like the Quick Search toolbar to be displayed automatically?
(Incidentally, I have already suggested this above)

Or would you, for example, like the command: cm_SrcTabsList 3 to be used by default with Ctrl+Shift+A
without redefinition?

Or what else would you like?

of course. That the whole logic of showing the full paths against of shorten names for Tabs.
To look on - to type - to filter - to go in...

I'm still confused. In TC 11.02, after pressing Ctrl+Shift+A, *, Backspace, the * would be implicit. In TC 11.03rc5 this is no longer the case.

Another way to end up here in TC 11.03rc5:
Press Ctrl+Shift+A (or use rightclick), Ctrl+Shift+A, a character other than *.

Quick search without * doesn't seem to do anything anymore in the tabs list in full path mode. What is it supposed to do?

I am puzzled too, that it does not work in full path mode without the *, as it did in TC11.02

Also if I have set the option for "Quick Search" -> "Exact name match" to "Beginning (name must start with typed character)", then it is not possible to search for a charater in the middle of the folder name by starting the search string with * - as it is in the normal quick Search in the file list.

Maybe Ctrl+Shift+A twice should be the ONLY way to enable full path mode, and the * should be treated like it is for normal Quick Search and the History list search.

That's odd, I'm not aware of any change which disabled quick search without the * at the start. I will check it.
