[Old] What are this Âèêàñ signs on the 'Configuration - Font' page?

In the "Configuration - Font" page, there are sections for File list font, Main window font, and Dialog box font.
Below these sections, it will find the following text

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz¹Âèêàñ?

Because the last few characters are unreadable, I used OCR to recognize them and then converted them into Western European characters.
Could you please explain the meaning of the characters "¹Âèêàñ?" at the end?
I have been curious about this little question for about twenty years.

That Âèêàñ are "Extended ASCII" / "High ASCII" chars no. 128 to 255 for country typical accent chars, depending on the used code page.

The sample text can be configured with the FontSampleText parameter in the [Configuration] section of the wincmd.ini file - for example:
