Administrator^ - hide Accent circonflexe - Suggestion: WITHDRAWN!

Post by *tuska »

HISTORY.TXT wrote: 05.07.06 Release Total Commander 6.55 public beta 2
30.06.06 Added: Windows Vista: Use IsUserAnAdmin to determine whether the user has full admin rights or not,
show "username^" if user has full admin rights
If Total Commander is started as administrator, the following display appears in the title bar: Administrator^
I would like to be able to hide the ^ character (accent circonflexe), as "Administrator" is already displayed anyway.

This might be true for Administrator and maybe even similarly named users (Admin). However, you should be aware that TC can be run as different user (without running elevated) and in such cases TC shows the username in the title bar. So if your administrator account is named tuska, you wouldn't be able to tell if TC is running elevated or not, because both of them would be shown without the circumflex.

Thank you for your advice - I wasn't aware of that.

I would then suggest the following for such cases:
Administrator - tuska - Total Commander (x64) 11.02 - Xxx Xxxxxx   ... or ...
Administrator: tuska - Total Commander (x64) 11.02 - Xxx Xxxxxx

-------
The following would probably not look so good:
Administrator: Administrator - Total Commander (x64) 11.02 - Xxx Xxxxxx
Administrator: Admin - Total Commander (x64) 11.02 - Xxx Xxxxxx

In these cases, you could perhaps recognise whether the PC was started as a real administrator
and omit "Administrator" from the front.

Hmm...

Karl

A better word for it would be "Elevated". That's why the ^ symbol makes sense, think of it as an arrow pointing upwards.

Thanks for the input - I have understood.

I withdraw my proposal.

EDIT:
A similar topic was addressed here:
Elevation icon instead of annoying text with ^
