How can I make TC use Everything 1.5a?

Post by *kodepr »

Hi,

I had Everything 1.4.1.1024 installed and I could use it for searches in TC by entering "ev:" in the "Search for"-field.
Today I installed Everything 1.5.0.1361a because I need the new "container-file-name:"-functionality.

Apparently, TC keeps using Everything 1.4 instead of 1.5a. How can I make TC use Everything 1.5a?

Please note that 1.4 and 1.5a seem to be installed in different folders:
  • v 1.4 executable is here: C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything.exe
  • v 1.5a executable is here: C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything64.exe

I'm using TC 10.00 64 bit

Replacing my Everything 1.4 installation with the test version?

Windows 11 Pro (x64) Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.2715)
TC 11.02 x64/x86 | 'Everything' 1.5.0.1361a (x64)

Search queries: Total Commander <=> 'Everything'
13. SETTINGS: For 'Everything' in Total Commander & 'Everything' -> from 'Everything' Version 1.5

To concretise the topic a little more:

There are currently 3 options to establish the connection between Everything 1.5a and Total Commander:
Point 13. SETTINGS: For 'Everything' in Total Commander & 'Everything' -> from 'Everything' Version 1.5
  • Pt. 13.1.b.1. wincmd.ini [Configuration] UseEverythingInstance=1.5a ... AND ... Everything.ini: alpha_instance=1
    -OR-
  • Pt. 13.2.b. Everything-1.5a.ini: alpha_instance=0 --> Disable 1.5a Instance
    -OR-
  • Pt. 13.2.c. File: NO_ALPHA_INSTANCE
One file WITHOUT content and WITHOUT file extension in the Everything programme directory
(this is where the file "Everything64.exe" [or "Everything.exe"] is located).
Furthermore, there are [important] notes on OPTIONAL settings.

Note:
Two different Everything installation locations are NOT required.

If you are considering a complete switch from Everything 1.4 to 1.5a (I advise you to do so),
then in my opinion this would be the appropriate location: C:\Program Files\Everything\ ... for the migration to 1.5a.

In this case, I would highly recommend the variant under point 13.2.c. File: NO_ALPHA_INSTANCE

The 'Everything' author has described how this works in detail here:
To completely replace your Everything 1.4 installation with Everything 1.5 alpha ...
