(Solved) Error when pressing F6

Post by *blackman »

When you press F6, the file is not transferred, but all files in the directory are selected
I didn't specify F6 anywhere in the settings.
If you press F6 below with the cursor, the transfer proceeds normally
What is the problem?

Total Commander 11.03 error when pressing F6

Problem solved! There was a LangOver translation program hanging in the tray where F6 was used to reverse the text. Changed it and everything is OK
Thank you for participating. You helped me a lot

Not confirmed
Try to start TC with a fresh ini file.

Please check in Menu Configuration - Options - Misc whether F6 has been redefined. Click on the button with the triangle to view currently redefined hotkeys. It's also possible that F6 has been redefined in a scripting tool like AutoHotkey. This takes precedence over internal hotkeys.

Damn, I missed that. I always missed something like that and then resorted to directly editing the wincmd.ini sections [Shortcuts] and [Alias]. As I just noticed in the help, this is explained there, but a short explanatory text in the settings would be better.

I wrote that I didn’t define the F6 key anywhere in the parameters
Of course, I looked at the configuration, including “Miscellaneous”. I looked through the entire menu. No F6 there

Do other keys like F3 (View), F4 (Edit), F5 (Copy), F7 (MkDir) and F8 (Delete) execute the expected functions? If not, what do they do instead?

If you happen to have a keyboard with a secondary assignment on the F keys you should switch it to the other mode. Some (or most?) of these keyboards have some method of locking the keys to either of these modes.

I have a regular keyboard. And most importantly, in the previous version F6 worked as expected
Maybe go back to the previous version, but where can I get it?

I doubt that version 11.03 works somehow different than previous versions, but maybe Ghisler can check if there were any code changes. Anyway, old versions can be found here: https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Where_to_find_old_versions_of_Total_Commander

IMO it's much more likely that some program has registered F6 as a global hotkey. Try Hotkey Detective to find out if this is the case.

I reinstalled the old 2022 year one in update mode. All the same.
Maybe I need to completely remove it and install it, but I'm afraid that then all the settings will be lost. I wouldn't want to

That's nonsense.
A new install will not resolve your problem, which is the same in an old TC and the actual one.
You will have to find what other tool or script uses F6.
Btw. we are still waiting what happens if you just try it with a fresh ini ?

Did you even read the Wiki article? And did you read blackman's question? Apparently not because if you did you would've noticed that you posted the exact same URL as in that Wiki article, but the latter provides even more sources for older versions - which were clearly asked for by the OP. Sometimes I wonder...

2blackman:
Use the Hotkey Detective as I suggested above.
