Some suggestions for Lister
1) Disable internal loading of all files or specified files, but you can use plugins to load.
2) Press 4 to switch plugins, disable internal loading of all files or specified files, but you can use plugins to load.
3) The menu can be hidden in non-fullscreen mode.

Use plugin loading, internal loading is not needed, pressing 4 will switch to it, so I want to disable it.
In Lister's dark non-full screen mode, there is a white separator line under the menu, which is not beautiful, so I want to hide the menu.

2) Press 4 to switch plugins, disable internal loading of all files or specified files, but you can use plugins to load.
You can disable internal loading for ALL files by disabling the options: "Use plugins or load bitmaps as graphics at startup" and "Multimedia (AVI, VAW...)"
You can then set which plugins you want to use for specified files via the "Define view method by file type".

"Define view method by file type"
I used this option, but when I press 4, it still switches to internal loading, and I can't disable it unless I set two plugins.
For some file types, I only have one loading plugin, what should I do in this case?

and there is no way to disable it unless you set two plugins
Ahh - yes. that is correct and according to the help:
Help wrote:If you have specified only one view method, opening Lister with F3 will use this method. Pressing '4' multiple times will change all Lister plugins if they support the file type.
You can get around that by setting the same plugin twice - It will reload the image when you press 4 though.

But why would you press 4 in the first place, if you only want to view the file with one plugin?

Sometimes I am not sure whether I have only set one plugin. For example, I have set two plugins for ico files, and I often press 4 to switch the viewing mode. I have set one plugin for jpg files, and I also press 4 out of habit.

It is impossible for me to remember how many plugins are set for each file type

Then use the workaround of repeating the single plugin for jpg files in the "Define view method by file type".

If the Lister field can be set to disable internal loading for all files, there is no need to add these cumbersome configurations for each file.

Sorry but I will never add that. There needs to be a fallback when no plugin is available for a specific file type. Just use the method described above for specific types.

This does not conflict with the second suggestion.
Using F3, if no plugin is found, you can use internal loading, what I hope is to press 4, disable internal loading, do not switch to it, and use only plugin.
I hope you'll think about it again.

Just repeat the plugin to get exactly this behaviour, as described above.

Don't you think this is too much trouble?
You need to configure it for each new plugin, and for each file type, you also need to configure it.
The only occasion to use internal loading is F3. I believe pressing 4 never wants to see internal loading, so switching to it is redundant.

No, I think that it would cause more problems that it solves (e.g. for people who activate it by mistake) and offers less flexibility then the current solution where you can control it for each extension separately.

I have set the preferred plugin for all important file types
and use the Lister Plugins menu to temporarily select another one.

I agree that if it's possible to open a file in at least one plugin, switching to Lister should not occur, but perhaps except for the case when the file was originally shown in Lister.
