How to use "Total Commander for Android" as a "Wifi File Explorer"?
Hello,
I prefer to browse files that are on my Android phone, on my computer, because there's a much bigger screen, the use of mouse, etc.
The two apps that I'm using for such purpose (Wifi File Explorer, and Wifi File Transfer) haven't been updated in years, and they have some limits, too.
I am familiar with TotalCmd-Wifi Transfer, but only one file at a time. How to use it as a "Wifi Total Commander"? So a "Total Commander for Android" would open on my computer screen, and I could use it just as if it is running on my Android phone?

See: viewtopic.php?p=458228#p458228 and the following posts...
You need the TC WebDAV plugin on the computer, and the WiFi-transfer plugin for TCA on your phone.
And on the phone you have to select all the folder you want to see on the computer. Unfortunately it is not possible to select entire phone memory or an entire SD-card from TCA's start page.

If you want a simple way, then just connect your phone to your computer with an USB-cable, then your phone will turn up as a drive in TC.

Re: How to use "Total Commander for Android" as a "Wifi File Explorer"?
It's not that difficult. Just share the folders you want to access with the WiFi transfer plugin, then use "Connect network drive" on the PC to mount the phone as a drive with a drive letter.

Click on the copy button (second from left) and then on "via Wifi".How do I share a folder on the phone?
In Total Commander it would be in menu Net: "Network connections".And where exactly do I find that function?
Enter the URL shown by the WiFi plugin in the "Folder" field. Do NOT click on "Connect to a web site"!
I recommend adding a user name and password to the WiFi plugin, then you can use the path 8888 instead of the random path which otherwise acts as a temporary pin.

That's what I have already been doing - I just didn't consider it as sharing.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-12-27, 07:56 UTCClick on the copy button (second from left) and then on "via Wifi".How do I share a folder on the phone?
Aha "Network Connections..." I was confused since you called it "Connect network drive" - and I didn't know that I could put in http:// URL's in that dialog. Works fine - thank youghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-12-27, 07:56 UTCIn Total Commander it would be in menu Net: "Network connections".And where exactly do I find that function?

If I for example want to share all the folders on my SD card, I have to mark all the folders before I start the Copy via WiFi procedure - is there an easier way? It is not possible to mark the SD card (or any other folder) in TCA's main page for copying. It would be nice if the context menu for folders on the main page could have a "Send to: Send via WiFi (Total Commander)" item.
EDIT:
I wrote that it works fine, but there seem to be a limit of the size of files I can access this way.
I have a file of 26 Mb that I can access but other files of 51 Mb or higher that I cannot access - TC says that the file do not exist if I try to open it (mp4 file). I cannot access these bigger files from Explorer.
If I have a wdx plugins running that displays info about mp4 and jpg files, then TC crashes (no error messages from TC) if I hover or focus the big files.

Re: How to use "Total Commander for Android" as a "Wifi File Explorer"?
Hallo
Cx File Explorer ( Cx Datei Explorer )
Download von
https://cx-file-explorer.en.uptodown.com/android/download
a. Einen Schnellere Verbindung mit denn WLAN ( Bezogen auf denn LOGIN ins WLAN)
b. Hat der FTP-Server immer die Gleiche interne IP.
und ich habe immer mit einen Klick im TC Zugriff auf das Smartphone.
( Logischer weise nur wenn der FTP-Server Läuft)

Hello
Sorry that I write in German, I don't speak English.
I hope I don't violate any of your forum rules when I click on something else
TC Similar Program references,
So I solved the problem by installing an FTP server on my Android smartphone.
I use the program for this:
Cx File Explorer
Download from
https://cx-file-explorer.en.uptodown.com/android/download
This is also available in the Google App Store.
But I prefer APK's
Since the Google App Store has various restrictions, see TC, installations of APKs prohibited...
If the Cx File Explorer
The smartphone is installed on it
You can find the access point from the network in the network area
This is the FTP server
Once it's started you can connect to TC VIA NETWORK>>FTP
And go to your smartphone
The advantage is that the file synchronization and comparison functions work
Another note.
I have given my smartphone a FIXED IP in the WLAN.
then I have
a. A faster connection to the WLAN (related to the LOGIN into the WLAN)
b. The FTP server always has the same internal IP.
and I always have access to the smartphone with just one click in the TC.
(Logically only if the FTP server is running)

It's a Windows limit. Here you can find a description on how to increase the limit.have a file of 26 Mb that I can access but other files or 51 Mb of higher that I cannot access

Thanks - I increased the limeit to 900Mb and now it works (had to restart the computer). It's a Windows limit. Here you can find a description on how to increase the limit.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1869561/webdav-what-is-the-default-file-size-limit-for-windows-7
But I still have to disable my user-defined wdxTooltips - otherwise TC crashes when I Enter the DCIM\Camera folder.
BTW - checked Windows 10 - it also have a 50Mb limit for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters\FileSizeLimitInBytes
And If I use the WebDAV TC file-system plugin, there are no problems with filesize or crashing when wdx Tooltips are enabled (they are ignored when using the FS plugin).

No such problem here - maybe a shell extension, or a wdx plugin. Try ShellExView, or disable some plugins. But I still have to disable my user-defined wdxTooltips - otherwise TC crashes when I Enter the DCIM\Camera folder.

As I wrote before ( viewtopic.php?p=466105#p466105 ), TC does not crash if I disable wdx plugins - I have narrowed it down to be the tcmediainfo plugin causing the problem.disable some plugins

Total Commander in Windows 10: phone does not appear as a drive, it does not appear at all.petermad wrote: 2024-12-25, 21:48 UTC If you want a simple way, then just connect your phone to your computer with an USB-cable, then your phone will turn up as a drive in TC.
I only have 1,7GB (of 128GB) left, I have no idea what took so much memory. I suspect that files, stored in the SD-card, are added to the phone memory somehow. It shows that the biggest app on the phone (internal shared storage) is Gallery with 66,53GB, but all my photos and videos are on the SD-card.
